Does anybody have or can provide photos of the above van engine in situ showing the timing chain cover in place so that
I can reassure myself that mine has a timing chain and not a belt!!!
many thanks

Stick a couple of pics of your engine on here and maybe someone will be able to tell you ?

The 2.2 or 2198cc is a Ford Puma engine and has a timing chain. I thought that were always in the Peugeot and Citroens. The 2287cc engine is a 2.3 and has a belt, normally in Fiats.

Been there as well if it is a 2.2 on the V5 then check any numbers you can find on the timing chain cover, cylinder block etc, and goggle should throw up Ford Transit engine, Doubt you will find a sticker stating Ford though.

I was also of the belief that the 2.2ltr engines were not in the fiat Ducato.

I had a 2010 Ducato motorhome fitted with the 2200cc Puma engine. The oil filter actually had Ford printed on it.

The 2198cc Ford Puma (with timing chain), 100bhp output and 5 speed gearbox, was fitted to the Ducato between 2007 and 2010.
Aha Ducato vans but were they fitted to motorhomes? Every day is a school day 👍

Hi here are a couple of photos....this is the Engine in question..I tried to get the cover off the top but couldn't without taking off some hoses!!!!!.....so if anybody can substantiate whether this engine has a chain that would be great

I believe the Ford derived Puma Diesel transit engines have a tin plate timing cover ( well mine has ) which is a vertical cover on the left hand side of your photo ( check with a magnet) and cam belt driven engines have a plastic cover.
The timing chain cover is under the pink coolant header tank maybe easier to access from underneath.

My previous fiat van C-2007 with a 2.2 engine was a chain cam.
Ford puma variant as everybody has said.

The engine code for the chain driven camshaft type is 4HV and this may be shown on the van information plate under the bonnet.
Or If you contact a Fiat van agent with your vin number they will be able to confirm things for you.
