We’ve got a 2022 Fiat Ducati auto. I tend to use automatic most of the time and only occasionally the sequential mode (I think that is the term Fiat use). But I’m never sure how or when you should engage sequential mode if driving in auto or vice versa. Do you just freely shift the gear stick to the left (or right) or only change from one to the other when the vehicle is stationary? I tend to find it easier to use sequential mode if going down a steep descent as it’s easier to control the speed.

I have the same auto box and have moved it to the 'manual' setting on many occasions. The manual doesn't say you have to be stationary to move it. What it does recommend is using it when going up or down steep hills to avoid the auto box continuously shifting gears. I think the idea is you try and stay in one gear if possible. I'm not an expert on automatics or driving them though, so no doubt someone more knowledgeable might come along soon to correct me!

That’s more or less same as I do and I consciously try to avoid flipping from auto to synchronous mode etc but i wanted to check how other funsters use it.

Only shifting from auto to manual when stationary rather defeats the object of being able to use the manual mode to stay in one gear. I've used manual a few times just to see how it changes, but to be fair to the AT9 - it's brilliant in auto, (even going up/down steep hills), so I just leave it in auto and enjoy the drive..........

Is this the same for the 6 speed auto ?
I find up here in Highlands, I drive mainly 5th gear, but auto changes to 6th, then I lose speed on hills.

I leave it in auto and use the ‘up’ switch which sorts it out perfectly for me.

Same Ducato 2.2 9 speed auto.

Been up and down steep hills, lost half a tank of fresh water but never a thought of manual mode.
Did try it once to see if it worked - tried it once..

Using the accelerator and braking I have been very pleased with the auto shift.
