Fiat Chasis 2022 water ingress issue damaged steeribg rack

Hi we are in the process of buying a McLouis Fusion which is on the 2022 Fiat chassis. Literally a day before pick up the electric assisted power steering broke. Garage thought it was just o sensor issue but they have now said its the steering rack.
Looking at historical comments on here it seems to be a known Fiat problem, although when I phoned the dealership they said theyvhad never heard of it before.

My questions are,
What's the likelihood of it happening again? Are the replacements any differant/better then the original part?
Is there anything else we should get them to check, I saw mention of a wiring loom?
It's not a warranty covered repair so if it did happened again it would be a costly repair.

I would be very, very surprised if that were the case. I'm sure people on here have had it fixed as part of warranty.
How could Fiat argue the case that it wasn't warranty work!

The warranty issue is down to the original Fiat part no longer being available. So because it's not being replaced with the same part it wouldn't be claimable on a future warranty claim.
