Fiat 9 speed gearbox problems

In MMM Magazine a letter about breaking down abroad. This motorhomer had an Adria Sonic, driving through Norway and has gearbox problems. His words are: "the gearbox overheats one time too many to continue so it goes into a Fiat garage and they diagnose that the now common fault is P1BD7 meaning gearbox needs replacing". Doesn't sound good!

I'm sure there have been posts about this before and the cause was not enough oil in the gear box.
