Hi all, fitted these two the other day with the help of a mate who is much more DIY capable than myself. Pretty pleased with the results.
I know that they won’t stop a determined thief but as an extra visual deterrent I think they’re great.
One on the Hab door and one on the N/S garage door.
These are the ones that drill through the door frame as opposed to the side body wall. Had to use some 1mm plastic window packers to make the unit sit flush in the door frame because of a slight raised flange in the frame itself which of course was right in line with where to drill the screw holes! Plenty of mastic too to prevent water ingress in and around each unit.
Anyone else used them?

The downside of fitting one to your hab door and swinging it into the locked position, is that you have made a statement to any potential thief that your van is not occupied.
We have one fitted to our hab door, but we never put it in the locked position, so is our van occupied or not to a thief ?

Yep they were on my van when I bought it and I don't use them for the same reason

A friend had one of the handle type ones the toe rags did £3k of damage to seal 20 quids worth of CD's. Pulled the lock mountings through the van wall.

I had 2 fitted to each garage door on our previous van, had them professionally sprayed silver to match the van. I removed them when we sold it, with the intention of fitting to new van, but have never got around to it. Have sat in container under bench since.
Never had any issues for the 2 years they were fitted to the van.

Though I can see they might make the scrouts thing there’s something worth nicking behind the doors.

I have one of the handle type on the hab door which is never in the locked position, and a sliding type on the garage door to deter any migrants while near the channel ports.

I fitted one on my hab door about 18 months ago.
Within the first year the paint started lifting off it exposing corroded metal and there is now rust stains coming from it.
I will be removing it before the side of the van is rust stained.

One of a few upgrades we knew we wanted in our van from new.
I think is money well spent.

I wouldn't fit one on the hab door but it was already there when I bought it. As someone has already pointed out, it is a dead giveaway that no one's in if its locked. Mine is never locked but is used as a dog lead anchorage.

Thanks for all the replies and input. I can see both sides of the argument. I fitted them as a form of visual deterrent but I can see why some would say you are actually advertising the fact the vehicle is unoccupied. I’m never usually far from the vehicle when I’m away in it….so far!
When I was driving trucks around Europe I would always be aware of where I was stopping. Sit in the vehicle for 5 or 10 minutes just watching before getting out. Park in view of security cameras if possible or close to and amongst others.
The scumbags who do these break ins invariably are watching out as you pull in, whether it’s a service area or super / hypermarket car park. A solo driver seemingly alone in their vehicle would be worth their while watching. If they see you leave and decide to have a go then an extra lock may put them off. Or it may not!
I’m looking at getting the L4V hook locks fitted to the driver and passenger doors too. Again, it’s an extra deterrent.

Rick@62, have you fitted a "ProPlate" to your driver's cab door handle, as popping a thin screwdriver through the door skin to unlock a Ducato, Boxer and Relay is a popular method used by thieves.
Haven’t heard of it but will have a look. Thanks for the heads up. 👍
