On 4th van so not a total newbie....
Been sat at Calais since 10:00 for the 11:10 ferry, info board said on time, then dropped off, now gone on their app, and says cancelled next crossing 13:35! No info here or any staff, only on app!

Disgusting, will now get dinner going..

Irish Ferries regrets to advise that the 11:10 Calais to Dover Inishmore sailing on 26/11/2024 has now been cancelled due to operational reasons. You can be accommodated on our 13:35 Oscar Wilde sailing instead. Please check in at least 30 minutes prior to the sailing departure time.

Not sure if it is related, but one of Irish other ships suffered damage to a bridge window in the storms. They "may" be using Inishmore to keep the route open whilst that ship is repaired?

Would be nice to have had staff available or something on the info board apart from "on-time".

Looks like we should be eligible for compensation though ...

Takes the piss when their info board states on time at 11:10 then drops off and finally appears on the app 50 minutes later, surely they could have just put cancelled on the board?

I have used Dover/ Calais with Irish quite a few times. They do seem to run their service quite lean- ie they have fewer check in desks open and less staff at the ports.

Its a classic case of when it works, you do not notice this- but when there are delays and you want information then it is very apparent

I think it is still here in Port.

Hi, you are correct. I have just looked and it is moored up In Calais- maybe due to lack of traffic they are dropping a service or two throughout the day?

I had the same thing happen with Irish before- it is incredibly frustrating turning up to the port to find a cancelation- if they had been informed you earlier, you could have had a later start/ a more leisurely drive to Calais

Look on the bright side, at least your in your home with all the facilities you could want, look out of the window of your warm lounge at the People in cars… it’s only a few hours of inconvenience….😎

.....When delayed for the Lofoten Island ferry we sat in the back and watched a movie and had a brew. the ticket man walked past (back to front) so we only saw him when he was walking away. Weather was foul. Saw him twice.

When eventually boarding we drove forward fully expecting to pay, got pulled from the lane but then sent to a different lane for the ferry and drove on.

Never actually paid. £120. (IIRC) kerching.

Finally home, god our roads are lousy, compared with most of Europe!
Unfortunately as we did not know what was happening we just sat waiting, if we knew it was cancelled we would have just sat back and watched something, but we were just waiting assuming we would move any minute.
Nevermind, planning our next trip already!

Happened to me with Irish Ferries Dover to Calais last December. When we got on the next ferry, 2 hours later, it was very quiet. I suspect they cancelled it to save money, telling us it was for ‘Operational reasons’. I suppose that loosely covers it.

The most recent crossing I made with Irish, Dover - Calais I arrived really early with the expectation of being able to prep some lunch while I was waiting. I checked in at one of the two booths open and was given a lane number. As I was leaving the booth my phone pinged with a message from Irish informing me that my ferry was running to and a half hours late and giving an expected departure time. When I looked at the mirror hanger I had been booked on an earlier ferry which was running an hour plus late. I was one of the first to board and then the departure was delayed for an hour whilst they bunkered.. No free meal ticket though.
