Thinking of upgrading our van shortly. Looked on here at some of the ads, then Auto trader at a few then thought, " I'll have a look on Facebook". OMG, 90% of the ads are scams. So many stupidly priced vans it's a joke. Just a quick selection :-

Faceache should be shut down it's not fit for purpose
Oh I don't know, just imagine how distraught some users would be if they had nowhere to spout their bile etc and it stops them 'infecting' other sites. 😄

Well Facebook Marketplace then. Soooooo many stories of people being ripped off and not just motorhomes. It's a scammers paradise. Even Scam Interceptors said to be very, very wary of anything for sale on the platform.

I've had a few good bargains off marketplace before.

Shutting it down wouldn't stop people not thinking before parting with money.

I’ve bought and sold a few items on Marketplace without any hassle. At least it’s possible to see the seller’s profile and how long they’ve had an account, as well as how frequently they post, which helps to work out whether they are a real person or not. Communicate using FB messenger only. Keep local and meet in person in a neutral place for exchange in cash. Watch for the usual telltale indicators of a possible scam…

Facebook Market place is indeed full of scammers however and it's a big however if you are savvy enough to do your homework and sift through the scammers and terminally brain dead it can be very effective.

I sold my Kontiki on there a couple months or so ago in 24 hours and a couple of years ago I sold a motorcycle in just six hours!

You have to suss out the profiles and ignore anyone that just abruptly demands your phone number but it does work.

For that reason I only went on Faecesbook for 3 weeks, eleven years ago.
Too busy leading my own life to be interested in what the bored keyboard attention-seekers are (allegedly) doing.

Sold a few things via Marketplace and never had any issues. Sorry, I don’t agree with that you can see a sellers profile. My settings are set so that only people I want can see my posts and anyone could set up a profile and post all sorts of fake info. The only time I had issues was when I was trying to sell my car via Marketplace and Gumtree and a few people said that they couldn’t come and see my car for a variety of health reasons but they would send me the money through and send a courier to collect. Alarm bells straight away and took the car off the market. Sold via Motorway and had an excellent experience.

If I can't view a seller or a buyers profile I won't respond to them. You can usually tell if they are genuine assuming you can view the profile.

I don't understand why people hate on the social media platforms like this. I am on facebook to keep in touch with family and some friends. No one else infects my feed with bile and I choose exactly who I follow and see in my feed.

The same on twitter. There are two tabs.

As you can see I only see the people I follow. I follow engineers, scientists, farmers, organisations like lincs police, a couple of entertaining ones who compile interesting or funny tweets, a few politicians, economists, news channels.
I could go on but you get the idea. I ONLY see their posts not any bile or far right or far left stuff. If someone is hateful, ranty or consistently wrong I just don't follow them at all. The for you tab can have some unpleasant stuff in it, but easy to avoid that tab.

Both facebook and twitter are very useful tools if you get them set up right and use them right.

Facebook marketplace is filled with scammers I agree, but with a bit of caution it is worth using as it is free unlike ebay and MUCH faster. The social part of it I have locked down tighter than a gnats butt hole. No/few adverts or suggested posts etc.

I have a bit of a love hate relationship with FB. As you point out it's useful for a lot of things but there are some right Dibbles on there. 😂

Some of the specialist groups are great though. Most of mine are bonkers or stuff like musicians groups or biker groups. The Muso ones can be quite funny as they all have egos. Very useful though. I've done collaborations with musicians from Falkirk to Texas. I bought my Suzuki Vstrom off a member on that group who was well known and I knew it would be right. We are good mates now. That particular biker group is fantastic. Great guys and super helpful.
