Eye Bolts in Rear Door Hinges - Has anyone done this?

I always have difficulty with a strong Scots accent but he has really got me on this one

Ok engineering head on here. A mate bolt is designed to be screwed in 12mm for maximum strength any less and you could potentially damage the thread if you subject it to too much stress. Yes you could probably hang a small lite item on it but for securing something large like a dogwould be at risk.

Should have mentioned you can get bolts made from different types of steel like high tensile which will carry more load but the chances are the screwed thread welded to the motorhome body will be a bog standard material. Tow bars are not normally fitted using a bog standard nut and bolt.

First MoHo we tied dogs around step, can't do this on current one, so have a long lead that I put around the tyre, works a treat and has always held, even our large GSD

Crickey, does the poor mutt have to run alongside while you're driving? o_O

Simply a bar through the eye. Surely you wouldn't use a torque wrench for a hinge bolt?
That's what I did. Torqued to the British Leyland standard… tightened till the threads strip, then back a quarter turn. 🤣
