External Signal Boost Antenna for 4G Router?

Hi,

can someone recommend an external antenna for an Huweai router please?.

mots not to extend the WiFi, it’s to increase the reception !.

Hi,

Regarding the antenna solutions for RV and campers I would like to suggest the Poynting antenna solutions.
I may be biased as I represent Poynting in Europe, but I will try to provide you with some information to make a good choice. I do feel I can support you a bit as for campers you really want to have a true omnidirectional antenna solutions where you do not need to worry about locations of base stations. During travelling and on remote campsites it is important to have the best possible reception. Depending on your router configuration an LTE antenna or multifunctional antennas may be the best choice for you. In case of the Huawei router you would need a MIMO 2x2 LTE antenna such as the PUCK-2, a very robust and compact antenna solution or is size and space are not an issue, please choose the larger Poynting antenna solution for even better performance, especially noticeable in more remote and signal challenging areas. I would go here for the MIMO-3-V2-12 antenna solutions for the Huawei router.

When comparing antennas the gain is not the most important factor, but rather ask the supplier to provide you with the radiation pattern for each frequency important to you. The horizontal view should be circular on each frequency to retrieve the best performance. The vertical view of the radiation pattern should demonstrate the maximum gain is distributed sideways. Gain directed to the moon is useless, though it might be higher in numbers dBi. Poynting optimizes the electrical design across all frequencies as such the optimal performance can be achieved.

Please feel free to contact me if you would need more information.

Tjeerd

Hi,

Yes it is all not to easy, but with a bit of trust in us we can make it easy.

Your router has two external antenna inputs.
The best antenna you can purchase with the best performance, worldwide coverage, is the Poynting MIMO-3-V2-12. This antenna is your preferred choice if you do not want to compromise on connectivity quality, if you have enough space available and you do not mind the size of the antenna.
Should size be an issue or your budget is less, then please consider the PUCK-2-White. This is a much smaller antenna. Thought the performance is excellent for the size of the antenna you may notice that you may use roaming more often and sometimes you will be just to far out to get a good connection. The antenna will do all popular worldwide LTE frequencies and is future proof as it will also cover 5G.
Technical details on the PUCK-2 (available in white as well) can be found here: https://poynting.tech/wp-content/up...Technical-Specification-A-PUCK-0002-V1-01.pdf
Technical details on the MIMO-3-V2-12 can be found here: https://poynting.tech/wp-content/up...Technical-Specification-A-MIMO-0003-V2-12.pdf
Please do consult with for example Mr. John Laidler who is using our antennas. You also want to contact www.solwise.co.uk for more information and advice.
I hope this additional information helps you a bit more (though still technical)....
Enjoy your weekend!

Tjeerd, I have always had a concern with puck type antenna on the roof of a motorhome. Up there are hatches, air conditioning units, vents etc. On my Morelo the awning is mounted on the roof and contained inside a shroud which runs around the top edges to create a contained space the height of which is greater than the pucks. Now I appreciate that these elements will not eliminate the ability of the antenna but they will surely create distractions in its line of sight which will not be the case with a vertical pole type which extends above them?

Dear Michael,

Often there is a compromise you would need to make mounting the antenna. best to have somewhat free space around the antenna (60cm would be great) but this is not always possible. The cable length is best to have as short as possible. Metal items will interfere more than others. Other items will also reflect radio waves, which is postive. Omnidirectional antennas do not require direct line of sight. Thus objects can be "blocking", but should not be too close. I hope this helps a bit.

Hi,

for a fixed installation I would recommend to consider mounting 2 x OMNNI-292 LTE high performance antennas (minimum distance between them ca. 60cm or more) (https://poynting.tech/?s=OMNI-292). Please see the picture of my house on which I have them installed. If you have direct line of sight with the base station, you can also consider the Poynting XPOL-2-5G directional antenna (https://poynting.tech/?s=xpol-2-5g), which will allow you better throughput, but it needs to be directed to the BTS of your provider.
I hope this helps.

I know I've seen it but can I find it again!:doh::doh:
And I know it's an SMA cable connector but can anyone advise this muppet if the Poynting Puck 0002 cable is terminated with a female or male connector as I'll need to get a TS9 adaptor pigtail for our mifi unit?:notworthy2:

Hi,
The antennas are terminated with SMA-m (male).

Depending on where you are mounting the MiFi right angled connectors might be useful. The ones I used looked like this although the ones shown below don't get good reviews - but I hope you can get the idea of what I mean. Just look for better quality. :)

Thanks for that John but I'm still a wee bitty confuddled (and no it's not 'cause you're super brainy just me being super numpty:p).
The link you provided seems to be for a cable that has SMA female to CRC9 male connectors.
My current Huawei e5573s has, I'm pretty certain, TS9 connectors however I'm also thinking of getting a new e5577 unit. Think that's the unit you've got but does it have CRC9 connectors?
Also, not sure on right angled connectors to the mifi unit as they seem to have a larger body than my current straight connectors. The distance between the sockets on my e5573s are c9mm over the centres. Best guess, do you think right angled connectors would fit?
Or am I just be daft (again!).
TIA!

Apologies, my bad as they say. :) It will be TS9 connectors you need but this probably explain the reviews saying the plugs were flimsy, TS9s are much better.

I'm not saying you need right angled-connectors as it depends where you are mounting the MiFi. For me, coupled with a right-angled power supply cable, it made things a bit neater. :)

The MiFi has Velcro on the back of it.
