Maybe helpful to anyone looking for a separate travel insurance for longer in stays in Europe (Not bank Linked) At what I think is a good price

Just been searching and getting quotes for annual travel insurance rather than paying for each individual trip as we now stay longer than the usual 30 day limit on what is a combined or bank linked insurance. We also already have full European breakdown included in our van insurance for over 3.5t

We have had some ridiculous quotes as both over 60 and declared medical issues. Although not serious and want up to 90 days covered on more than one trip.

Virgin money travel insurance.

Gold cover gives up to 94 days cover in Europe
Medical issues covered
Annual multi trips no limit
Covers up to 80 years of age.

£200 for the year for us(y)

Thought it might be helpful to someone

By comparison. This year we paid £250 for a single 90 day trip

Not bad price..I pay about £280 (inclusive of £13 a month bank fee) for 82 day multitrip travel and health plus year round breakdown with Nationwide.
78 and 71 years of age and a couple of health issues..BUSBY

I tried Nationwide by calling and asking about medical and extending to 90 days.

On top of the £13 per month was the additional £200 anyway

Plus. I would then need to change bank.

I know you get breakdown in it as well but it's already in my van insurance and you end up doubling up on insurances.

I also saw they can also request a look at your service history before recovery. A bit random but not something I want to be messing with on a breakdown.

I do have full service history before anyone says. But where does this stop. Oh you had it serviced but not at X garage etc sorry no recovery.

Never had that with breakdown..used them twice excellent..Logically who could produce service history when broken down half way up a mountain in Spain?.Claimed on travel insurance once..could not believe how smooth and simple it was..BUSBY

I've used my N'wide breakdown cover twice in UK for my car and no mention whatsoever of service records.

I've just paid £396 for Planet Earth Euro Cover 90 days for 2x 70+ yo .

We spend about 180 days a year in France. So the cover is essential now we're getting older.

Does this cover any one trip or several trips no exceeding 90 days

It’s multiple trips. You can do 90 then come back and go for 90 again. Although you can’t because of Schengen obviously

Their Europe cover looks good but oddly does not extend to Morocco which most companies do, Turkey however is included. LV who I am with do cover Morocco but charge an £200 extra for the privilege!! Next year when we aren’t going to Morocco they might be a possible.

Yep nationwide can be expensive for some things.
We both have declared medical conditions and it was no additional cost for me but £234 for the boss for the standard 31 day cover.

So will look around next year especially when wanting to have 60 day cover.

Yes we are the same. Mine doesn’t add the boss is the expensive part.

Nothing new there

I tried Virgin Money Travel Insurance thinking that your cover and quote was very good. While they did at least quote online, sadly our age (late 60's), but especially our medical conditions are clearly a bit more significant. Gold cover was over £1,100 with even Red cover £650 for both. That's certainly a wake up call about our mortality!! Ironically perhaps, the less expensive tge insurance, the less likely one is to need it. But vice versa is also true!! 🫢🤔🫣😜

Looks like you will have to shop around

But the problem is the medical conditions. I think that is going to get a lot more restrictive in the near future and prohibitively expensive. Another way to stop you traveling unfortunately.

It will be a case of how lucky do you feel traveling without insurance soon for a lot of us and at that point they will then make it compulsory.

Very true Fragle. This is another reason to motorhome and travel before we get too old, or too poorly. No regrets! That's why we've just bought our first motorhome now at ages 68+67.

I've often wondered what exactly GHIC covers? I know it is always recommended to buy travel insurance in addition, but of course anybody would say that to be safe. I've not seen any definitive opinion on that subject.

The thing about GHIC is that it does not make the medical visit/treatment FREE of charge - only that you will pay the same as the locals. eg In France, costs approx 20/25 Euros to see a GP. If he gives you a prescription, you take it to the pharmacy shop and they dispense the drugs that you then pay for!

But if they are charging £1000 for insurance that you may/may not need. As I said earlier how lucky do you feel.
It’s worst case scenario you want covered but it costs
With a motorhome and nothing booked it’s easy to change and head home probably easier to not have insurance than on a package flight
