Hello all! Following on from my question about pre-purchase habitation checks (thread is here) I wondered if any of you have experiences of the Burstner Nexxo T690G? We have put a holding deposit on one (2016 plate, out of warranty) from a private seller, pending AA pre-purchase inspection, and the vehicle is being serviced at a garage - paid for by the vendor - next week in order that we can pay for a warranty. There is one issue the seller is rectifying: a hairline crack in the shower. They cited £500 to fix this at a motorhome workshop, but I'm not sure exactly how it's being mended. The cambelt has not been changed, so that will need doing immediately.

Edited to add: the vendor has already agreed a £750 reduction on the asking price. A dealer who had the same vehicle (in a terrible state with bits falling off, ex rental) would not budge on price (£2k more than this one) and that cambelt had not been changed either.

We did not see any flooring delamination issues. A recent habitation check by an AWS service found 14% damp in places, otherwise mostly 10%, which I understand is under the threshold for concern.

Any tips would be appreciated as we decide whether to purchase this vehicle. (y)

if not too late, can you ask the owner to arrange a cam belt change at the same time as the service and perhaps split the cost?
In the current market climate, dealers are unlikely to offer any discounts on used as the price of new and scarcity of both new and used vehicles are high. Getting a discount from a private seller along with repair to the shower is good. However, the moment you drive away, any other faults will be yours to fix, presumably.
I bought used (nearly new) this week from a dealer at top dollar and zero discount. On the first night in use a few faults, relatively minor thankfully, became evident and were repaired yesterday at dealer’s cost. Buying from dealers may cost more but if there’s a warranty, I think it’s the safer bet if you like the vehicle.

Your already aware of the floor delamination issues so well done on doing your research. (y)
Recoating of a shower tray is an easy fix so I have read on here, likewise having a cam belt change.
Only thing i can add is tyre age check, they may have loads of tread but just look on the sides to see how old they are. A Google search will explain what to look for.

Thank you both! Very useful tips, much appreciated.

Bit of a bombshell this morning, however....! We had been told throughout that the engine was Euro6 as that was high on our list of stipulations (we will need to enter cities especially the one my hubbie's parents live in). I called Fiat today who confirmed it's actually Euro5. Eeeek.

This is hard to take. We have been searching for ages for a suitable vehicle and this one really felt ideal, after kissing MANY frogs. £2k under the dealer's price and streets ahead in terms of condition. Lots to process now.

Do you really need Euro 6 ??
Mine is 2014 and Euro 5 it seems to get all the right stickers for France / Germany etc.
I cant see any city being just Euro 6 vehicles only..

Thanks Tonka. We have realised after a lot of research that we really do need Euro 6 for what we're planning (especially as my husband's parents live in an ultra low emissions zone in Europe and we'd be spending a lot of time there). We'd gone for this Burstner on that understanding. We've been back and forth all day about it, trying to decide and have come to the conclusion we definitely need Euro 6.

Let's see if we think the same in the morning...

We're sticking to our decision to walk away from this lovely vehicle as after my own research (phoning Fiat with the VIN) we found out it was Euro 5. We're gutted 😥 but head over heart must prevail. There's no point spending all that money on something that won't suit us in less than a year. I just hope we get our deposit back as we put that down on the basis it was Euro 6, as they'd told us several times.

Live and learn. I'll always personally check the VIN with a main dealer in future.

A tip about non manufacturers Warranties (as you’ve mentioned having one) we have one, supplied by our dealer for when the Fiat one runs out….not worth the paper it’s printed on.

So many exclusions for what is NOT covered, authority needed before any work, maximum amount for parts and maximum hourly rate for labour (£48) caped at £500.

I’m not saying all are like this, as I don’t know, but check the T&C’s before buying one. (y)

Well done for doing all your checks.

Thank you for the tips! I'm wondering if you could tell me which warranty you paid for (by PM if you prefer?). Many thanks!

It was one supplied by the dealer as part of our purchase, so no idea how much they paid for it. They failed to tell me about the Fiat one…..which I’d have been happy to pay for as it more comprehensive, but this has to be applied for within 14 days of first registration. 🤦‍♂️

It’s a RAC Warranty. The Plan is provided by The Warranty Group Services (Isle of Man) Ltd, administered by TWG Services Ltd….Head Office in Surrey.

Everything will be natural wear, consumable products, lack of maintenance etc etc, so unlikely to pay out.

One warranty, three companies involved. 🤷‍♂️

Have had our 2015 Nexxo T690g automatic from new. Did our homework thoroughly never having owned a motorhome before but having been caravanners for many many years. This turned out to have been a great decision and one we have never regretted. Had usual teething troubles that you always get with a new vehicle but apart from the actual hassle of having to travel long distances to buy and collect and return annually to dealer for warrantee servicing etc, we have never regretted this purchase. Mind you we do have all servicing, maintenance etc carried out at the appropriate time, which is now a lot easier as (DorisTG as she is known) is of an age where are able to have this carried out by a fully registered and qualified mechanic who comes to our drive to do the work.

Have you pumped the Reg number into the CAZ checker? <Broken link removed>
My Euro5 comes up as being exempt, I guess because it was registered in 2016.

Coming up to two years ownership on our Harmony Line 690G and very pleased. A few niggles no different to those on caravans and boats and in September it goes out of warranty. The dealer we purchased the van from disappointed on sorting issues out but much happier now we use Moran in Ludlow for service etc. Great van, wish we had the full oven, and payload very tight at 3500kg so uplating to 3700kg with no additional work on the vehicle.

Thanks all for your feedback on your Burstner experiences! We did love the one we saw, but sadly we really need Euro 6 so we've moved on to consider a beautiful Hymer... 💖

Howard B thanks for that link! I hadn't seen it before. The reg of the Burstner does come up clean so I think we'd be OK in the UK. We will be spending most of our time in Europe, however, so want to be absolutely sure it's Euro 6. (y)
