Good morning Funsters,
I posted last week regarding my fridge which would not keep the temperature.
The local motorhome dealer Marquis have quoted £1200 to repair the fault
The fridge still works on gas and 12 v , any insight why it should cost so much ??

I had my fridge (dometic) 2005 ish model repaired a couple of years ago at a independent dometic repairer. If I can remember correctly they replaced, 12v wiring harness, gas burner and a thermo coupling thingy?. £365 including materials and fridge was removed from van so done without fiddling hands through vents.

Would you not be cheaper just getting a replacement at that sort of money?

I'm surprised they haven't written it off as cost for a new fridge isn't that much more?
Could they write it off and replace with a compressor fridge, less hassle to go wrong and a lot better in warmer days
I believe they're also cheaper than a 3 way? Obviously no good if you go off grid though

If its working on 12 volt and gas the refrigerator system is working ok. As previously mentioned it must be the 240 volt element.

Hi folks, first post so hoping I make myself clear🥴 Similar problem for me. Then read somewhere (could’ve been on here!) that the relays that are fitted when converting are positioned in the most convenient place for the mechanic. Which normally means front of the bulkhead..prone to damp. I checked mine, Green and swollen with corrosion (the relays…calm down😜) replaced both (Halfords £8 for two) and presto fridge began to respond as it should do even the step started to retract automatically on engine start. Then as always something else started to play up (see pic) one of the four connections wasn’t making up, assume thermocouple voltage confirm. Tweaked it cleaned it and all working again atm🤞

When my fridge was "serviced" they failed to push the neutral connector on sufficiently to make contact.

My fridge stopped working on mains. I have never done any fridge work before but had a go.

I bought the most likely part to fail which was the element. I bought one similar to this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354275401766

Took me longer to figure out how to get the fridge out of the cabinet than it did to replace the element.

It is a straight forward job for a competent DIYer and took me under an hour all told and cost less than £50.

If you are up for it, might be worth a go first? I am not recommending you do, that is a call only you can make based on your self perceived confidence and competence :)

PS: Plenty of youtube videos. don't just watch 1 though as some are bad. watch a few and make a judgement call.

We had a new Dometic supplied and fitted for less than that

They like to pull your pants down and give you a spanking 😉
Probably just don't want the work.
Easy fix with a little research
I would say they are keen to do the job. An hour for one of the staff plus a few quid for parts. What's not to like

I have only ever used dealers while under warranty, then did the job properly when I got the vehicle back. Even got Swift involved, they agreed with me that the dealer had done a very shoddy job.

If the electric repair is ONLY available at that price, I wouldn’t bother gas and 12v are the best and most useful options. Especially if you have refillable cylinders.
