I hope the pictures will attach OK. I've got a fiat ducato burstner marano motorhome. I thought it developed a bit of a blow over Easter but having had a closer look, the exhaust has snapped at the join nearest the engine bay. It had a private number plate at sometime which means the vehicle is never found during parts enquiries. Having seen the rest of it (especially the big silencer which is peeling) I'm wondering about a stainless steel replacement but just trying to source a mild steel one is proving hard. I contacted a specialist exhaust fabricator but he said the motorhome wouldn't fit on his ramp. I can probably do it myself but finding the parts is hard. Open to any suggestions. Many thanks

Looks to be the same front pipe as mine, which also failed.

Hopefully this is the front pipe and the link to parts that may well fit.

Hope it helps.

Thank you. Mine is a 2.3 and is the older shape not the newer. I suppose I can always check it easily enough when actually collecting from euro car parts

The break has been a common fault on many types of vehicles, sometimes caused by worn engine mountings, often just poor design the solution has usually been to incorporate a flexible section in the front section.
To your question Google the base vehicle /conversion model for photos to compare,eBay may have images for comparison

Have you got any links to the flexible section? Is it a universal joint or specific to each exhaust?

Flexible pipe is available by length and diameter but is usually braized/welded in
You may find a suitable "clamp ". in section modification for the diameter you require .
On larger bore they are mostly flexible pipe.
A ball and socket is used usually on smaller bore.Google or eBay " flexible exhaust section"

Any decent parts supplier should be able to confirm the age and model from the vin number. Years ago I needed parts for a car and the parts department wouldnt do a search without the vin number.

Do you have to cut a bit of the exhaust pipe away to fit one of those flexible connectors? I presume it would go as close to where the existing crack is as possible?

Yes,cut out a section as close to front of down pipe as sensible
I see someone on eBay does made to measure state your length/diameter /fitting type £25

I managed to get the old one off and I'm wondering if it will just be easier to get a new piece. I do have an arc and mig welder but somethings telling me it might be easier to just get a new section. The bit that really looks bad is the final silencer.

I don't suppose anyone would know where I can get the new silencer section bit? I wonder if euro car parts sell that too. It exits out via the nearside

Not always but often a full system is sold at a much higher discount than parts, you obviously need front pipe and back box,so may be very little more for full system
Arc welding thin corroded down pipe not ideal...will leave area adjacent to weld brittle and liable to cracking

many many years! since I was a kid
A friend of mine had the exhaust snap in the same spot whilst in Spain in January. A local garage welded a new piece in to get her home. The parts are all available on ebay to replace it when finances allow

Yes but I don't know any part numbers etc. I appreciate euro car parts not necessarily the cheapest but at least I can take them back if it doesn't match up.

I'd really like to get a stainless steel complete system but I can't find anything online that even looks similar

Stainless mostly made to measure, some available off shelf all Very very expensive,on a diesel steel should last 10yrs ISH,how old is van,how long will you keep it ? Would stainless be cost effective (at least twice the price of std )

The only one I can find that looks like it might fit is this one. Euro car parts don't seem to sell the rear section
