Will be booking a return trip to Blighty next week and ET want £215 for the trip - to be fair I have £ 150 of it in tescos vouchers but it still seems steep

Thoughts ?

That does seem a lot, but it's probably largely due to the close proximity of the travel date ?
It always pays to book as far in advance as possible.
The day and time of travel also make a big difference, I think Wednesdays have the lowest price loading

I had an unexpected opportunity to pop down to Carnac a couple of weeks ago, booked last minute, short stay saver (5 days max) and it was still £300 return. As noted above, really need to book as far ahead as possible. Like many on here, long for the days of the frequent traveller tickets

I don't think you can use your Tesco voucher on a single trip originating in Calais. My vouchers state the following "Partner codes can be used for single or return journeys originating from Folkestone only. Codes can't be used for trips originating from Calais."

Sadly ET prices have been going up and up recently, as much as we love the tunnel for convenience, once we have used our Tesco vouchers up we will be looking for cheaper options to cross the water.

Are you booking a return because you can't use Tesco vouchers on a single, or if outward leg is from France.

Not sure we will see the next few days I guess

We’re crossing Dover - Calais next week, (from East Mids) heading south, ultimately to Spain. Coming back end November. We were quoted similar prices Dover-Calais (c£220) as Newhaven-Dieppe (c£250) when 60+ discount applied, but felt sorry for the dog cooped up in the van for 4 hours in the potentially rough sea. Have always gone Eurotunnel in the past, but they’re asking c£350, so we’re going DFDS Dover Calais.
(P&O were £50 quid cheaper than DFDS at around £170, but we can’t bring ourselves to travel with them after the “fire & rehire” debacle).
The above was our experience, 7.3m van, end of September for a 4th October outbound crossing.
That’s less than we were quoted and half term is approaching, so at first sight doesn’t seem that bad.

Our Calais Folkestone single, booked Sunday -travelled yesterday 11.18am was £197 but the earlier and later ones were £280.

I'm not convinced it makes much difference booking in advance these days, we could have booked a ferry for £97, which seems to be about the same as price checking this morning for the same journey on a random Monday in December

Yep, it's really bad! We travel between Germany and England every two months via Eurotunnel - done it for the last six years. Before Covid we were able to buy a block of ten trips for £400. Now each single trip is at least £150. Eurotunnel have no intention of bring back the frequent traveller either. And their service is considerably poorer than it was pre-Covid. It's a real pity. In my experience it doesn't seem to be any cheaper if you book far in advance.

Been using eurotunnel for last 9 years. Mainly frequent traveller. Noticed prices going up. Quote with C&MC discount was £224 with dog returning one way 27th this month. Irish Ferries quoting £103. Time for a change. Yes I know P&O are even cheaper but I'm sticking to my Trade Union principles.

Last time away was over £200each way. We always use the tunnel because of the dogs but it's definitely getting very expensive.
Some ferry services allow you to have your dog with you on board ... Might be worth investigating?

I receive a lot more ET marketing emails recently, so they must be losing customers. I also always reply to their email surveys after a trip with them commenting that I wasn't impressed with the pricing. I also point out that when I plan my next trip I will consider using the ferry because of their pricing and lack of regular traveler discounts. It may not work but if they get enough comments...

I prefer to pay the extra for the speed and convenience of Le Shuttle.
We are a love the tunnel, but we have already booked for next year on the ferry due to the rising cost for going through the tunnel.
The price for next year for a 6.4m motorhome with a small 1.85m trailer on the euro tunnel web site quoted £544.00 return, trailing on the 25 June and return 10 sept, the same dates on the ferry from Dover was £339.50 in my book this is a no brainier..

Beware, if you are booking a return trip and do not take the outbound leg the return portion is invalidated!

We paid £177 for a 5 day return, mid December, this year, by car months back. Booking exactly the same today would cost £181. Not much of a saving.
Same journey with our old 6m PVC would be £278. It’s generally the peak times that are the biggies. We booked for July next year in May this year for a PVC but staying away for a month during school holidays, £361 return. That’s about a £50 increase on what we paid this summer. I’d bet that the ferry is cheaper but in terms of convenience and not having to get out of the vehicle, scrabble to find somewhere to sit, etc. at the moment I’ll stick to the tunnel. Now when we both stop working at Christmas, I might be singing a different song!

I booked via CMC about 2 months ago for +8m motorhome travelling 06/01 for 119GBP. Never normally use CMC as they are a pain if you need to change and they charge a fee to make the change. But it was a good price.

Price for us if we booked for May next year would be £335 return in our 6m Inca, but we don't tow anything.

As a comparison, P&O with same times etc is £162 on P&O website. So cheaper, but only one boat every 90 mins-2hours. Tunnel is about 3 per hour. I suppose a lot depends on if you are in a hurry. On a five day return I’m keen to make the most of not being on transport or any sort.

We came out on the tunnel with Tesco vouchers at £220 , very steep in my view. We are going back Calais to Dover on the ferry tomorrow for £88 a big difference on a return journey. This will be the first time for the ferry so will evaluate the saving to see if it’s worth it. The tunnel is good for convenience and speed.
