Does anybody have any info re LPG and the tunnel, I have an underslung gas tank. I know i have to book commercial as we are 8250k with the trailer. Cant find info on the LPG... thanks all

Can you turn it off before the regulator ?
Thats the usual requirement.
Unless it`s powering the vehicle, then not allowed at all

I believe there is a Qty limit and must be able to be isolated, they nearly always check the cylinders are turned off.

As far as I know you don’t book commercial. 3 axle double deck coaches travel tourist. Long story, but I tried to travel freight with a MH once and they refused because it was ‘to high calorific value’
All LPG must be isolated before boarding

Are you sure you have to book commercial? I don't think you'll be allowed to, up to 18.5 mtr and 25 tonne!

Ok, I tried to get a price today and it stated that because I was over 3.5t I had to go to the commercial site. I think I should give them a call, Thanks for the info

i'm 5000kgs and always go as a motorhome and always book through CAMC as its 10% cheaper

BTW, with the bike/scooter rack on the back i'm now 9.3mtrs with no issues and i've never paid more then £85/95

It's only lpg fuelled vehicles that are banned. You would need to show them that your system has been isolated so that no gas can flow from the tank (or cylinder - the rules are the same) - have you thought of installing a shut off valve in easy to get to location so it can be shown to the member of staff checking?

10M & 10.5t with a 68L underslung LPG tank. Always book by ringing them up and always on the normal train with the cars, other motorhomes, coaches etc. Isolating valve attached directly to tank and with easy access behind a lift up door. :gum:

Ian.s Don't waste your time trying to phone for clarification. The advice already given is correct, ie, book as a Campervan and add the trailer. When asked to, select the fuel option for the engine, not the living area.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

This is what I do but then have to book by vehicle type because it won't find my reg.

Sometimes they will take your word for the gas being off but there are some that want to put their hand on the valve to check that its off so it does need to be accessible Ian.s

We have an underslung tank, & we just turn off the taps under the sink - sometimes they check, sometimes they don’t. You must have some cut off valves somewhere, unless it’s a self build?

The last time someone did that at the Tunnel Jon, I really struggled to turn the valve back on, so now, I demonstrate wherever possible, that I am turning the valve off on their behalf as they watch. 😉

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂

But that is not isolating the supply, as the bulk tank valve is still open, ie, no different to a cylinder valve being left open. We had a bulk tank on our last MH.

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂
