As a keen walker who uses the digital ordnance survey maps a lot, does anyone know of any equivalent for Europe, ideally covering France, Switzerland, Austria, but ideally all main countries? In the UK it's easy to stop, look at the map and plan a hike, not so easy in Europe, unless someone has an idea?

I use Open Source Maps. App is available on Android and iOS. Free to use but worth buying to add extra maps, topgraphy etc. Search for OSMAnd+ in the app stores. Brilliant bit of kit

I use Outdoor active.

Think it’s about £25 a year but includes all maps in UK and Europe with that.

Has routes, you can download to work offline, works with watch etc. example below.

Mapy. CZ is another one worth looking at, shows cycle paths and footpaths, plus has tracking and navigation.

Thanks for the quick replies, will take a look at the suggestions.

I use Visorando …you can do all sorts with it…

I just use the OS maps app, just as useful in France as the UK 😀

A little 🤪biased towards Garmin devices there’s Broken Link Removed mapping site.

For maps I get OSM derived maps of the country or specific area I need from https://garmin3.bbbike.org/ and preload them to my GPSr

Thanks for the replies. I also found an app called IGNrando which is a close approximate for OS in France, Spain and Switzerland.

Try https://www.geoportail.gouv.fr/ for france you can look at maps of all different scales, including interesting historical maps from the 1800 1950s and aerial photography from the 60s.
But unfortunatly it is only in french, so maybe a little difficult for a non french speaker to navigate, there is also an android app, and i would imagine an apple version as well.

That’s the same as visorando that I mentioned I think…you can subscribe to diffent things like IGN or OS …openstreemapwalks, open street map cycle etc.

For France use the application Iphigénie and for Switzerland use SwitzerlandMobility. You won’t find better mapping as these are the official government maps equivalent to our Ordnance Survey. There is an annual fee for the French one but the Swiss is free.
