Hi All
I am looking for some recommendations for Annual European Breakdown cover for next year as we are planning some long trips. I have had a read through the forum and the web and there appears not to be many options for us but thought I would ask the collective anyway.
The Van is over 7M and 4.5T so is excluded from quite a few of the on line companies.
Breakdown cover was not offered with our insurance policy.
The Breakdown cover we have for the UK (via CAMC) does not have a Europe bolt on option but they sell the Red Pennant cover separately at £628 for the premium cover for says of up to 45 days, which to me seems excessive.
I am hoping there will be other options that one of you has that maybe what I am looking for?

TIA

Pete

Whatever you get look at the total costs they will pay for repatriation. Also how many breakdowns are you limited to.

At them prices you might be better changing insurance as it’s much cheaper to buy with breakdown included.
We use AIB and have been for 10 years.

Full European breakdown included in price unlimited trips and over 3.5t £450 all in

Was that CAMC price just for vehicle cover or did it include personal as well? I'm presuming from the price that it includes personal. Are you over eighty or significant medical issues, which all have a bearing on premium. The past couple of years I have paid around £200 for 31 days standard cover although I'm 6.4M plated at 3500Kg.

No the CAMAC was for the van only , I called and confirmed as I was gobsmacked by the price.

DAS through Comfort insurance were good when I broke down in France, £74 now i believe. You might have a google to see if you can go direct with them, 20 tonnes and 12 Mtrs limit on the size of your motorhome.

They have a limit of ,£300 in the UK and £5000 in Europe. You can buy direct I believe.

I’ve just had a read of their Ts & Cs for Europe and it mentions 7.5mtrs and std recovery trailer or truck, so might have to call to clarify the sizes and weights,👍

Interesting, I had no issues when I broke down my motorhome is 8.3mtrs and 6 tonnes.
I got the weights and length from the following site.

As stated earlier open nationwide account and go for their breakdown. We were covered on our old motorhome which was 7.9m and 4.5t. We can't use them now as we are 8.5m which is over their limit.
The Breakdown cover is only for the flex plus account for new customers with a £13 a month fee plus moving DD's to the new account and putting in a certain amount each month. The recovery looks quite good but `i don't want another current account at the moment thanks.

Opening a flex account also gives you access to their savings accounts of which are currently paying the best interest for regular savings accounts. They're also doing a £200 cash incentive just now for switching.

Don't have to put anything in a month for a flex account on its own . Just enough to cover the £13 per month fee .

But the 13 per month is more than covered by the extra interest I get from their saving account.

Cheaper than a full breakdown package that's for sure.

You don't need to move DDs to the account you just need to pay the fee each month that's it. You also get more than just breakdown cover but of course the choice is yours. Hope you get it sorted anyway

with the Flexi account you just need to put in enough to cover the £13 a month charge. You don't need to use it for anything else (although you can also get a credit card). It also gives you health cover ( with age restrictions ) and loss of mobile phone cover.. And it will cover you for UK breakdown.. I chose it because I have an old camper and most companies wouldn't cover it abroad.. It covers any vehicle in your name..no matter who is driving.. A bargain really!!

Think cover is limited to 61 days.
I took out LV motor insurance with full EU recovery included.

I asked them when I opened my account and they said no limit on trip length. The only limit is size of motorhome. They cover old vans too which is why I went with them as safeguard dropped my breakdown as the van is over 20 years old

Red Pennant every time. I thought it had shot up in price last April from £170 to £396 but that was due to my mother being over 80... Good job we had it though as she ended up in hospital in France for 5 weeks and needed to be repatriated eventually, they also helped out with my tyre issue although trivial was difficult for me to resolve. Amazing service and a lovely caring team working on resolving issues. They phoned at least once a day to make sure we were OK. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

May be a good account but I've just called and done a check on the restrictions as they apply to us.

Health you have to declare existing conditions and travel restricted to 30 days

With health added and (90) days travel included it exceeds £400 per year.

So not that cheap really as I've just had a quote for £200 for 12months unlimited travel insurance

Yes but then add to that unlimited breakdown cover.

A full aa breakdown package Europe wide costs more than the £146 per year to have the flex plus account.

But I'd then be paying twice as it's already in the cover for motorhome insurance. Same with Phone cover is already in the home insurance.

Just looking through and interesting to note that in event of breakdown in Europe they may ask to see the vehicle service history first. Could be an issue for someone maybe

Although they do include cruises as well that others charge for and is something we are interested in the future when we no longer have the dog.

Yeah but this thread was started because the op did not have breakdown included with his insurance.

It was primarily for breakdown cover the other insurances are just a bonus if required. The travel insurance for instance is no good to me as its only for 30 days . But the breakdown cover is very hard to beat.

Hence why I said at the start of the thread. Better to look at breakdown included with insurance and might be best/cheaper to reinsure. Suppose you could open account until your insurance was due again and relook then
