Lost my original thread so … after a wee break

4 days in Mantova now passed (was great had a music festival but the sosta was packed ) and now on our first leg home and driving to avoid the impending storms . Due west for 3 hours and a little north of Turin is this stop off

Only 4 places , brand new , great facilities at 15 hero’s only . Also all hard standing if you’re worried about the mud . Not much to look at and see and perfect for a night over

Really liked Mantova, the Aire just over the bridge out of town was quiet when we arrived. By the time we woke up there were mohos everywhere! Some very imaginative Italian parking!

Left Cessna at 9.15 and rocked up at lac du bourget at about 2 with a couple of wee breaks . Lovely trip - great views but shocked at the Mont Blanc toll !!!

Le Puy today , 200 km east from where we woke up and bang smack in the volcanic region of France . Camping Aire car park on the edge of town with a free shuttle bus for the tourists . Site is very clean and functional for a night and the town is worth a visit . The region is beautiful though . Had no rain to speak of here or on the journey

Heading north tomorrow - trying to make the Loire valley but may cut it short

Pictures to follow but had a 5 hour drive from Le Puy to Amboise today . Chose the non toll route and for 4/5th of the journey it was excellent - fast country roads through a myriad of villages and small towns with plenty of opportunity to stop and get tasty French treats . The last 1/5th (when tired) was orrible. Took a google suggestion which lead us through 40km of near single track roads , reversed to allow a massive tractor to get by and then was face with several temporary rue fermes - double backed on our selves several times - why the last 50km feels like 200 I’ll never know . Anyway now camped up on the municple camp site on the island in Amboise for 2 nights - doing naff all today but walking around the town which has a market in tomorrow - will report back

Impressed with the municipal at Amboise - 10m pitches with all the facilities 24 hero’s a night . Plus it’s very quiet and a 10 min walk to the town which is drop dead lovely and French … some pics …
