Help settle a question and hopefully might find someone in the same situation.

I am a UK passport holder, therefore I can leave the UK and enter the EU for 90 days etc etc.

However, I am also quite unique. Because I am also Portuguese and although I don't have a "Portuguese passport" I do have a Portuguese citizen card issued by the Portuguese. I therefore share "dual nationality". I can get a Portuguese passport by simply doing the paperwork which isn't an issue, but is there a need?

The way I read the rules, I can travel freely in the Schengen zone with just my National ID card and don't actually need a passport. A passport is no more than a travel document and I have a UK one anyway for exiting the EU.

Although of course, the other question would be can my little English rose stay with me using just our marriage certificate?

This has got to be a phone call to the Portuguese embassy to be sure as you will get various answers on here

You need the passport as when you leave the Uk the Uk passport will be stamped allowing you only 90 days in europe. The portugese one would not be stamped & you can stay as long as you want & yes the wife can as long as with you.

As far as I am aware the Portuguese citizen card is a ‘get out of jail free’ at any EU border, you use your UK passport to exit the UK ( it won’t be stamped as it’s not an EU entry point, that is done when you arrive in the EU. When you arrive in the EU you only need you Portuguese citizen card for entry. Similarly, you use you citizen card to exit the EU and your U.K. passport to enter the U.K. It is possible an over zealous border officer might insist on an exit stamp, but that does not matter, you can just collect those :-)

I travel with UK passport, but also have a Romanian National ID card. So dual citizenship. I can stay as long as I like in Ro, or UK. Also I can stay allot longer out due to the ID. However, we took the advise from officials, and got residency permit for my wife. She can travel within EU with that permit card.
If you have a Portuguese ID I take it you have a address in Portugal where you are registered. Apply for a resident card for your other half under that address.
