I've been trying to find guidance on the validity of our Romanian rescue dog's EU passport for a trip to France a little later this year (a first for us). I cannot find definitive guidance on this. We have an appointment for the rabies vaccination in March and hope that the vet can enlighten us further then but I'm trying to forward budget.
I'm sure plenty on here are well experienced with this. Can we use the EU passport, suitable stamped by a UK vet for vaccinations and thus avoid the £250 charge for an AHC, or do we need to just bite that bullet and get an AHC as well?

Under no circumstances do you let a UK vet put any Mark's in your EU issued PP. it will invalidate it. Get your rabies jab within the EU. If not possible the you will need AHC to leave uk then get another rabies jab in EU. Our vet confirmed that having multiple tables jabs would do no harm

I would concur word for word with this answer. If required, get a 1 year jab here and travel on AHC, once in Europe get a three year jab and get stamped in the passport. Paying for the AHC is a pain, but at least you will still have a valid passport for future travels.

Thank you - I believe that we need the rabies vac for the AHC so will have to go down that route. Getting another 3 year one in France is a great suggestion.

Advice given above is sound. But you don't need to pay as much as £250 for an AHC. There are a number of vets who do them for around the £100 mark. See the following thread :

If you would like a reasonably priced AHC go to Abbeywell Vets for it. £99.00 for 1st dog. Excellent service used by many Funsters us included.

Surely the key question is when the rabies jab was give to get the Romanian passport? If still current when you go, you can just use the EU passport. If it’s expired you’ll need an AHC then get the passport updated when you’re in the EU. UK vet must not touch EU passport.

Thanks- Rabies jab has long since expired, I believe we need to get one here to travel to EU.

yes you will do.& a new rabies jab in the PP will need to be done asap when you get over there as there is a 3 week delay , as shown by the dates, for when it starts.

It's amazing how soon we found £99 acceptable.
