I’ve just read this in a Spanish online newspaper HERE

I was not aware of this before, has anyone else any knowledge if it’s correct? The thing that struck me was the unlimited visits of 60 days

EU citizens need ETA for UK travel

Starting April 2025, EU citizens travelling to the UK without a visa will need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), costing 11 euros, ahead of their trip.

Eligible applicants can start applying from March 5, 2025.

This requirement applies to all EU passport holders, including infants and children, who do not have a visa or permission to live, work or study in the UK.

The ETA will be valid for two years, during which tourists from the EU will be allowed to travel to the UK as many times as they want, provided that they do not stay more than 60 days without returning to their home country.

Sorry, I cannot get the bold type to remain normal ☹️

Thanks for that link tacr2man but reading it it suggests they can visit for up to 6 months, presumably in any 12?, which is what I thought the rules were, not 60 days and unlimited amounts

This has been doing the rounds for YEARS was supposed to come in last November but France and Germany weren't ready - Spain was
Not re read the rules but was supposed to be 3 years and cost around £7
Will see what is is by then

I think you mean either EES or ETIAS. The ETA is for anyone coming INTO the UK.
It started a while back applying to people from certain countries - largely middle east from memory. It applies where there is no requirement for a visa.
There are some issues that may or may not have been resolved with eg some (may be all) the channel isles. The ETA is attached to your passport (as the ETIAS will be for us) but it is possible for people from France to visit the Channel Isles still on an ID card and that would no longer be possible. Jersey in particular was very concerned because there is quite a lot of spur of the moment travel between France & Jersey, but many French dont have passports so it would stop that ad hoc travel.

I think you’re getting mixed up Madcaravanner with the soon to come (delayed) rules for us entering Schengen countries. This is about coming to UK 😊

I’m assuming Irish EU passport holders are exempt under the long standing free movement arrangements?
