ETIAS yes or no

Heading to France in August and still don't know if I need a visa or a ETIAS what ever that is supposed to start mid 2025 was that was going to start last year but was postponed anyway anybody tell me in plain English please what we actually need

I suspect it'll be postponed again (like it has on every previous deadline).
Don't worry about it until 2 months prior.
 
Like others have said. Don’t worry about it until nearer the time. If you do need one it will be an online application like the American ESTA so done in no time.

I did Estas for us yesterday, not that we’re going to the USA but we’re off to Panama and with all this global warming malarkey who knows if our plane could get diverted. Best to have one just in case. Mind you Donald might invade whilst we’re there so it might be handy anyway!

Once ETIAS starts you will need to apply, as I understand it. As your wife is an EU citizen you will not have to pay the €7 application fee.

In any event (pre or post ETIAS) I believe that as long as you are travelling with your wife you don't have to worry about the whole 90/180 thing.
