We are currently mooching through France and on the way down from the tunnel stopped at the Vets in Buchy to get our dogs 3 year rabies booster done. All seemed well, but on double checking after the event I noticed that the 'valid from ' date has been entered as 17/06/2027 not 17/06/2024. I know, should have checked and checked again at the time, but sometimes the way they write 4's and 7's make them look very similar.
My question is will this create an issue when we try to get through passport control on 6th July?
If so, do we need to return to the issuing vet ( we are now over 175 miles away) or can the vet we use to administer the worming tablet etc prior to travel amend the date?
Wife is very stressed out about it and you know who's fault it is! So any advice appreciated.

When does the previous rabies vaccine run out? If its still valid for the period past when you go through Passport control then you may be OK.

Just saw your image - the previous rabies vaccine is valid till 9/25 - so, IMO the dog still has a valid rabies vaccine till then.

Yes, wife pointed that out as well. But going forward the date for the booster needs rectifying I presume to validate that?

Yes, indeed. Possibly that entry deleted and a whole new one entered for the vaccination. It would have to be by the vaccinating vet, I would think. Have you been in touch with the vet that did it?

It’s a tricky one. Should the date be 21 days after administration (like the first entry above) or, because it is a booster and you are still in date from previous entry) it is valid from date of administration?
Contact Buchy vets and see what they say, but, I feel that as Aireworth says, a new entry may have to me made rather than any alteration to that entry.
Are you able to go back that way when you return to Uk ?
I doubt anyone would be able to give a definitive answer except the actual person who checks it at border control.

Thing is, that 'valid from' date is obviously an error - and you would hope that any Border official would recognise that fact. If a vet makes an error in a Pet Passport I believe they are supposed to correct and initial/sign it. As this latest vaccination is obviously a booster given within the validity period of the previous vaccination, the 'valid from' field could just be left blank, so the fact that it has been filled in incorrectly may not present an issue. However, like you, I would not feel too happy about travelling with the Pet Passport as it stands.

I have copies of the APHA booklet 'Guidance for Authorised Pet Carriers and Checkers' and the 'Pet Travel Non-compliance' form which I have added below. These may help you decide what to do.

I have since posting spoken to the Vets that made the error and they've asked for photos of the passports, which I've sent
I've also spoken to the vets at La Fleche, who we would be using in abt 2 weeks time for worming etc before travelling home, explained the problem and asked them whether they can amend and correct the date. To which they have said yes they can. 🤞

My understanding is that the 'valid from' date is not relevant, in the case of a booster. There certainly isn't one entered on my dog's EU passport and we've had no problems. The DEFRA guidance refers to this. You can look at it on their website.
I don't think you will have a problem - but that's only my opinion.
Good luck!

They are a great vet and cheap compared to most.

Define 'cheap' please.
€10 for worming with own tablet first time we went, last year it was €20 but we needed some clear plastic for the rabies jab we had done in Spain that the vet didn't apply so happy to pay the bit extra. Also for worming you only see the receptionist and she let's you administer the tablet.

We were refused entry to the ferry at Bilbao when the vet in Zarautz filled in the date for the worming tablet one year ahead. We had the credit card receipt, but not good enough. We had a frantic trip into Bilbao where at the vetinary hospital, they filled in the passport ( pre EHC) didn’t give another tablet and charged us more than the original vet.
We were the last vehicle on the ferry.
We now always thoroughly check the entries, especially as the vet in Benicassim, who did our eu passport relayed a funny story where one of her customers had to stay in france several extra days because of a mistake she made.
