Epson Show March cancelled

just to let u know the 18-20th march motorhome/ caravan show at Epsom Racecourse has been cancelled.

I don't know anything about this particular show, its history or the promoters (so can't comment on them) but we've seen similar occurrences with family history shows.

Promoters of other types of events, seeing the success of other shows, try to arrange one at a new venue with insufficient knowledge of what is involved in that particular field. As a result, it either doesn't take off or happens once, unsuccessfully.

Only so much money Jim to go around. For years (over 20) I have been attending toy fairs.. used to be up to 16 on a Sunday around the UK always a few on every evening of the week.. over time they stopped and now there are far far less.

I see the shows going the same way. 25 years back it was a case of Straford on Avon and Shepton Mallet.. we wanted more, but now it is a case of to many (my personal view only).

Money is not so free, higher fuel prices, plus all the other things that have gone up or are about to means we (Sue and I ) will think hard about where we want to go. It is a case of cutting one or two out and perhaps spending a lot less when we are at the shows.

It is like the NHS it goes in circles, small to big and back to small or round and round.. contraction is happening and will continue to do so over the next couple of years. Is that a good thing? I wonder.. when you do go to a show there is a lot of campers, so it is popular.. but I fear it will be like the toy fairs.. dealers do not go as the public do not spend, so over time the show just closes. Then some one opens another one just up the road hoping it will work. We have had 3 Jeep dealers start up and close down in a distance of 10 miles over the past 5 years.. just to many within an area, just not enough money or people to support them.. I fear that is the issue for the traders at the shows. You could hear the moans at the end of last years Lincoln show... OK for the campers we had a good weekend, but the traders felt the lack of money. We see the charges for camping going up each year at shows and then f you want some of the entertainment it is an added on.. multiply that by a lot of shows and you soon see there is going to be an issue for some shows.

The first one it seems, but I expect as you say we will see a lot more in time. Plus we will see dealers as well as the spares market reduce as well.

This is an Appletree show. Weren't they quite good at cancelling shows last year? They cancelled one at Edinburgh and Harrogate if my memory is correct.

There is one at Windsor, apart from the actual pitch we were given which was in a poor position, it was quite a good show, this year we will be in a better spot.

Windsor has quite a wide variety of stands, from watersports, boats, cars to everything motorhoming. It is the only show we take vans to as well as our usual Fiamma stand which we will be adding a load of standard accessories to this year, plus you will be able to view all our goodies via the net.
