Fiat ducato fox
Hi I m a first time owner of a fiat ducato motorhome! I bought a fiat ducato fox on a m reg, was told the engine and gearbox were very good! To be on the safe side I had Cambelt replaced waterpump etc! 150 miles later broke down and have been told the crankshaft has gone! New engine all very distressing as I paid 8500! Question is what's the next step? Can not find a replacement engine for love no money! I ve since been in discussion with what seems to be a genuine guy and I ve been told the thing to do is replace engine and gearbox for the 2.8 engine, is this possible? I should say mine was the 1.9 non turbo engine. Any suggestions help would be very much appreciated as I'm genuinely gutted as the times i used I thoroughly enjoyed.

Sorry to hear of your engine woes
What are the symptoms when you say gone ?

I think Wildbill fitted a 2.8 into something that wasn't a 2.8, on a carpark in the rain.
I was in awe of his skills.
He might be able to give some pointers, but I imagine very labour intensive and expensive if your paying someone to do it.
Have you looked into having it reconditioned ?

Yes very expensive replacing the engine is the cheaper option

I,m sure someone will come on and say its been done before. The engines are very uncomplicated for that yrs compared to now and Fiat did use that engine so if you can find someone to do it it will be a great improvement

Mickyspu. Sorry to read of your bad luck.

Fiat also did a non turbo 2.5ltr engine which might be worth looking at, if you can't source a 2.8TDi. TBH, both are actually IVECO engines, as is the later chain driven 3.0ltr.

Good luck getting sorted. (y)

Jock. :)

It's possible to shoe horn 2.8 into your enging bay you might /will possibly need engine /gearbox mounts from the donar engine and no doubt a bit of wiring jiggerypokery.
If you can get a cheap donar vehicle with a good lump all the better.

Many years ago I fitted a Citrone C25 turbo engine into a petrol Talbot express but I did have the full car to pinch all the bits,
keep an eye out for a rotten 2.5ltr Talbot easy swap as no electronics to mess with apart from basic stuff. Good luck

I saw this some time ago and saved the information. Might be worth a phone call.

I changed a 2.5 TD to 2.8 you biggest problem is the work involved getting the drive shafts made up as ther is nothing out thare that just bolts on
It was hard work time consuming.
Cranks can be got on eBay mostly from Poland but are available
It's probibly best to get your engine rebuild there's good company's out there that will do it
Talking from experience and having done the transplant .
Two times now ono my van and a friends van
Go for a rebuild
Un Les you have plenty of money to throw at it
