In the past in Germany the 'claw' type pistol has been the norm, for which we have an adapter.

This year we have twice encountered a different pistol which has an outer sleeve which screws onto an adapter for an UK filler fitting.

The first garage had no adapter, so we left. The second had a selection of adapters but the first had too coarse a male thread for our fitting. The second thread was correct.

Are these guns becoming commonplace? Are they the ones common in Spain, needing the 'Euro' adapter?

Can somebody please explain the German changes.

If I need to buy a other adapter what do I ask for to obtain the right thread for my UK fitting?

TIA

Geoff

A photo would help.
All the German ones I have used are the same as the Belgium ones The ACME screw type.

This is the standard German one.

That’s the type we came across the last couple of weeks in Germany, and surrounding countries too.

Yes, Belgium & Austria use it as well. Holland uses the Dutch bayonet which is what the UK uses.

I think the claw one is the French one.

Got a set of 4 adaptors with our install when it was done. I assume (hope) there’s a German one in there…

Imo the German screw one is the best and easiest of all to use.
Nope, absolute pig if you can't get some distance between the filler and then you have to be very accurate in getting the filler dead square before screwing it on. French one has the be the easiest and Euro adaptor Spain use is pretty good. UK & German the worst IMO.

Euro to UK adapter leaves full pressure between the adaptor and your pipework, I slowly unscrew the adaptor until it blows the O ring out and releases the pressure.

Never had a problem in Germany, elsewhere, mixed.

Two types of Euro adaptor, with and without a non return valve.
You need the one without, sounds like you have the wrong one.
You can remove the valve I think you can just bash them out.

Our Morrisons one is really good but it is a fairly new one. The older UK ones are a pain.

On holiday at the moment, I will have a look at it when I get home.

I had the one with the valve. Tried without success to bash it out. Eventually drilled it but didnt want to risk bits of brass swarf getting into the system so chucked it and bought one without a valve

Used the UK bayonet, and the French and Spanish adapters. Find them all very easy to use. Yet to try the German one but have it in the kit.

That German Acme threaded one looks very much like the standard ones used on LPG powered fork lift trucks ?
