Chausson Welcome 85

Hello Funsters.
A really silly question from a beginner.
Just bought (yesterday) a Chausson Welcome 85 MH 2008 vintage.
The grey water tank sits at the back of the chassis and is emptied via a valve with a T bar which you pull with forked fingers.
The valve points vertically down.and has a bore diameter of maybe about 35mm.
I know I could empty it into a bucket.

My question is . Is there normally a Chausson supplied hose or can you buy a generic one or do you get what you can and bodge it.

It occurred to me that having not visited any campsite for 30 years perhaps ypu just drive over a hole and drain it that way.

Told you it was a silly one.

Not a silly question at all! As you say, some sites you drive over and empty, some use a bucket, and others use a Henry hoover expanding hose. My husband has carried a Henry hoover hose for about 3 years, but refuses to use it because “it will get dirty!” - no helping some people!

Some sites UK have drive over motorhome grey discharge points.. but many don't. In France most aires have them.

For an extension hose, look in a garden centre or fish pond supplier for generic convoluted hose

On sites without motorhome dump facilities, a bucket or grey waste carrier is the alternative.

If you have a fully serviced pitch it will have a grey water drain you can run your drain hose into.

Drive over the emptying point or into a bucket then walk to the emptying point.

Other points of view will be along shortly...............

Drive over dump points are common in mainland Europe on Aires & sites but rare in the UK. Convoluted pond hose comes in various sizes you can usually find one to fit.

This was my bucket this morning - was quite funny trying to empty it down they grey waste drain on the campsite but it
Frozen!.jpg
could have been more difficult if it was the grey waste tank itself frozen up!

We have a similar system on ours and although we’re relative newcomers we have travelled extensively throughout Scotland, the Lake District, and recently Devon and every single site we’ve been on has had a drive-over grey waste disposal point. We’ve never used any other method.

Thank you.
I'm worrying about nothing.
The only other MH I've driven was a Maui rental in New Zealand.
That had a horizontal tap eith a bendy hose to reach the disposal point which was the same hole in the ground you put your black waste down.
Going to scout out hoses.

Typical grey water empty point next to fresh water fill up and toilet cassette sliuse.
Drive over light grey area and open your valve it all drains to the central grate.

I carry a coil of 11/4" flexi hose for pitch drain , a fiamma tote tank and a folding plastic bucket, sort of covers all situations.

Why are grey waste valves small in design, and hidden?

Craig

Not all are.. my Hymer dump valve is actuated from inside the garage,

if it's a problem you could fit a 12v solenoid valve..

I have a marine tank for black so empty grey at the same time. Occasionally come across some with grey for floor , as in @Stealaway s link, & a pipe for black which means I'm unable to empty it.

We use a standard waste master with our Chausson as the drain pipes are very close to the ground. The narrow end of the waste master always fits under pipe.

Only on some vans, all 3 vans we have had, have had 40mm wastes pipies with large easy accessible valves. Current one is operated from a switch on the dash, I fitted a service camera, so I can drive over the dump point, dump the waste without moving from the drivers seat.

Echo what others have said, not all grey wastes are small or hidden. Both our previous Adria and present Hymer had 40mm drains, that is the same diameter as the pipe usually used to drain baths and kitchen sinks in houses. The Adria had the drain tap slightly under the motorhome, so had to squat down to operate. The Hymer has an easy to access drain tap in the garage.

Generally in Europe we use the drive over but obviously some have a drain hole that needs a tad more accuracy in positioning. For that I have a metre long convoluted pipe which fits on the drain hole perfectly (from Range warehouse (other outlets are available)) and I can direct the grey water to the correct place. However, I also have a collapsable bucket so that I can drain off especially if I'm on a site with no drive over or we're staying there for a few days.

And nobody has mentioned the “Magic Bucket” yet for emptying your tank??

Bill of @Ambilkate told me about that device some while ago - it’s remarkably efficient and you should definitely get one of those!! :)
