Looks repairable to me. Probably one of the companies that do the ecu & electro blok repairs ?

Dave. I can attempt a repair on that if you want. No gtee but just looks like a burnt out track. I will be in wednesbury on Tuesday. Get sue to pm Irene on Facebook.

theres a few tracks damaged, but it looks repairable quite easily by anyone able to clean it up and solder in wire links to bridge the breaks. Looks like something touched it, shorting it out

I've just had a Project 2000 step on my van conversion replaced with a new one.

I think it's a different model to yours, because mine slides in and out, rather than folding.

This is the one:

I have the old step, but no idea if it has the same pcb as yours inside? I'd have to take it apart and look.

You'd be welcome to have the pcb if it is the same, and if it can be removed easily. Straightforward to post. I wouldn't want anything for it.

The PCB isn't in the step - it's one of a number of controllers for steps used by converters to cause the step to retract when the engine is started. Incidentally control of the step is the same whether it's a double or a single.

Ah, OK, thank you for that!

I had no idea, which is somewhat obvious from my post above... ;) :giggle:

Demonstrates how little I know about these things. 😳

The steps really are very simple electrically. There are two electrical devices on the step: the motor (two wires which connected one way round run the motor to extend the step. When the connection is reversed so is the motor which retracts the step); the other device is a simple plunger switch which has one wire on it. Until the step is fully retracted that wire is connected to earth (the step metalwork). When the step is fully parked it pushes the plunger that disconnects the earth. Converters have a few different ways to control the step from no connection to the ignition to fully auto retraction as the engine starts. The way they do it ranges from a simple in/off/out switch to more complex controls involving electronics and/or relays.

Wow, you really know your onions on how these things work. Ours does retract automatically if the engine is started.

Do you think anybody would be interested in the old step for spares or repair? It seems such a shame to junk it, when somebody might be able to derive value from it.

I'm not sure why it stopped working, I think it suffered an impact. It's got a manufacture date of 12/15. I don't want anything for it, although it would need to be collected.

I'm sure someone would. Most parts can be salvaged.

I have sourced a electronic pre-programmed unit for my step at a cost of £120 had a lot of trouble Finding one I have ordered this from motorhome caravanning.co UK

Here's a link to the step lugnutt , and I've added some images of mine, just as it has come off the van (so a bit grubby ;) )

I suspect it's quite different to yours, but you are welcome to have it if of any use. (y)

It's a long time ago, I know, but if you still have your scrap step in your shed, I may be able to use some of the parts to create a single working step to replace my broken one, just a thought? Andy B

Sorry benidude the step was given to another Funsters a good while ago, otherwise you would have been welcome to have it.

Cheers. 👍

Having got their slider, and read the install instructions, the auto-retract is considered to be an option. The unit is dumb, so you can leave it on a simple in-out rocker switch; in which case good practice is to switch an simple alarm from the "not-in" switch.
If the motor still motors, there will be takers for the unit, to be switched manually.
