Since 1980, tents, caravans, motor homes.
Good afternoon all, I have a Auto Trail 700, a few weeks ago I had put on 450w solar,2x100Ecotree lithium, 2kv Victron multi plus, solar charger100/30, DC/DC 12/12/30. My installer has told me tha all electrical equipment must be isolated when driving, so when I start the engine the system shuts down, this has been wired into the Sargent PSU, is this the correct procedure, thank you for any assistance,Rob.

Yes, that is how British vans are built, it's a hangover from caravans, only Brit vans do it.

What exactly does he mean by 'all electrical equipment'? I presume he's at least excluding the DC-DC 12/12/30, whose only purpose is to charge the leisure battery when driving.

The manufacturers never get round to doing the electromagnetic compatibility testing that happens in other countries, so they simply put everything on a big relay that switches off when the engine starts. No reason why your additions should do the same, in my opinion.

It is the way the typical British Motorhome works as they tend to use 'caravan' systems still, such as the Sargent system.
However is is not a legal requirement and it is not a stipulation that "all electrical equipment must be isolated when driving".

I would be interested how he has installed the extra kit as the 30A Victron B2B has to run when the engine is running of course, otherwise it is doing nothing. The Solar must be bypassing the Sargent system as it is too large to go through it, and the same goes for the Multiplus.

I get the feeling that you are wondering if this shutdown has only just happened? and he did something wrong? Or you knew it shutdown and thought now it shouldn't?
Given the kit you list and the kind of cost of it, I would think he knows what he is doing TBH. If you don't want the electrics to shut down, that is doable. (I don't have my electrics shut down when I run the engine on my Autotrail any more ;) )

If you can find the relay it's a 2 minute job to bypass it and keep everything powered when driving.
Not on a Bailey. Yes, pull a fuse, but depending on age of MH different things happen.
2017 Bailey Autograph 68-2, stops any feed back.
2021 Bailey Autograph 69-2, stops feed back and hab. lights etc. can still be used.

Good evening all, thank you for all your replies. When I bought this motor home it had two leisure batteries and inverter, but did not shut down when engine was started, just making sure it was all ok .Rob
