Electric Triumph motorbike anyone?

No thanks, however i have already said to Andrea that the next bike i get will probably be Electric. Itll not be for a good few years though .
Ill wait until all the inevitable problems and charging infrastructure is sorted.

No price, no range info, "up to 670 hp" but we've set it at 80kw, I'm oot !

I like it, the problem is going to be range as with the other electric bikes. We have electric cars and if you boot them they suck the energy, it’s not a problem with a car most people don’t realise they only do a few miles a day anyway but when I go out on my bike it’s for pleasure only so i tend to do around 150 miles a time electric bikes won’t do it. Until they sort out the batteries I’ll stick with my petrol GS.
Still looks good though

Sorry definitely not for me. What is it with EV manufacturers? Is there a competition to develop the ugliest vehicles powered by battery?
I’ve a brand new Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro coming on 1st March. The first brand new vehicle I have ever had. I’ve bought this as it’ll probably be my last decent bike. I do keep them a long time before changing so the chances are the only option will be battery next time I’m looking to change. This will probably be my time to give up riding as I just don’t fancy a silent bike that won’t have gears and will cost four to five times the price of current bikes.
The sound of the engine, the selecting the correct gear for the correct speed to go round and accelerate from corners is part of riding to me. Plus I do like to ride long days, 500 miles plus and this won’t realistically be possible.

The Tiger is a nice bike I almost bought one but I have tinnitus and it set it of on a long demo the BMW was a deeper thud enjoy it when you get it and happy riding 👍👍

Very jealous - my dream bike!

I enjoy my Lexmoto '50 cc' electric motor scooter. Love the lack of noise when compared to those kid screaming their 50cc petrol engines. If there was one that did 100 miles comfortably and went to 70 mph I'd jump at passing my test and getting one for the motorhome.

Sounds great.......oh wait a minute - whats the point of a silent motorbike :LOL:.
When you were a kid did you ever tape a piece of card to the rear frame of your pushbike so it stuck into the spokes of the rear wheel? 🤔

I prefer my 2 triumphs and a lot better looking imo.

Beautiful looking bikes. I feel sure the battery bike boys could, if they tried, make a Modern equivalent that whilst not a battery bike copy of those bikes but keeping a similar line. Sort of looking like an evolution of those classic bikes.

OK the torque would be fun but without the noise and the challenge of matching gears to revs, setting up for the next corner and holding a gear at times just for the sheer fun it's just not motorcycling. If I just want transport I'll use a scooter.

Tbc I'm not arguing, because I strongly suspect you agree.

B...........r.......................u.......................................m

Jon, my thoughts too.

Then i went on to thinking whether the interest in motorcycle racing will wand if there is no noise?

Then I went on to wonder what the sport will do after 2030?

Then I went on to think the proposed ban is only on selling ICE engines, but what if the teams build their own engines and M/Cs and cars to race - there will be no selling involved - so will this be legal?

Then I went on to think ........I have done enough thinking for one day

Plenty of classic bike going on using remanufactured engines and casings etc.
Watched some at mallory a few years ago . Had a good look round the pit area and very little of the original Goldstar, matchless and Norton engines left.
Great to see how old stuff has been modified using newer materials and technology.👍👍👍

A friend of mine, the recent past President of The London Taxi Company, a subsidiary of Geely Automobile of China was telling me today about the evolution of the fully electric taxi and it s design and production. This started off because he has just acquired a Volvo fully electric (rented, not leased). I asked him about the life of the batteries (not the range) which is guaranteed for 8 years. That means according to my friend 12 years. He started off by saying the range depends a lot on the weather,as there is a lower range in winter due to the heater, heated leather seats, front and rear screen heaters, headlights etc being used. In the summer the range is higher due to less use of the items just mentioned. Apparently the noise issue, ie the lack of noise has been discarded by the Dept of Transport as many of these vehicles have the technology to detect obstacles including pedestrians. He told me that his Volvo well stop faster and in a shorter distance than a human driver can brake because it is under electronic control and he has had this happen when a pedestrian stepped into the road. There is a lot more he told me about the production and design including the design which started by getting the cab area right for the driver, eg the pedal positions such that if you had a full on head on crash the driver is less likely to have broken knees and ankles and the rest of the design follows on from that starting point. Never forward thinking on the design, IMO.
The lesson I am taking from this is that vehicle design must take account of a very large number of factors so is not as straightforward as many think. I am not convinced that electric is the way to go, my thinking is that hydrogen is the better option but the infrastructure needs to be at east up to current electric and then both up to that of the fossil fuel we are used to.
