I'm New!
So we have a Truma Combi 4 without electric, we’d like to have the option of electric heat when on EHU.

What do people use?

I’d just assumed a small oil filled radiator with Anti Tip and overheat protection would be the safest?

We keep one of these for when we are EHU.
1kw is usually enough to keep us toasty.
Carried one for years just for emergencies,,not used it yet but its there.BUSBY.

We carry a small fan heater but rarely use it. The Combi gives a far better heat distribution throughout the van and if you use a fan heater you will find when you go to the loo not only is it freezing but when you open the door the warm air condensates on the mirror the loo & all the cold surfaces.
As said much cheaper to use gas. We are on our 3rd van with gas only heating & the new one on order I've not bothered with the electric option.

We use a Dimplex 700W oil free radiator. No fan, so totally silent (except for the click as the thermostat turns it on/off). Low power so no problem on hookup. No oil, no tip-over risk, and with it in the cab area of our van easily keeps us toasty in winter.

Had my fees upped by £10/day to cover the cost of using one of these for a couple hrs/day in the Moho in lockdown 2. Owners can get a bit vexed if they realise you're using fan heaters.

If you are on a metered supply probably cheaper to use gas?
Metered supply? We'd never use them :swear2:

We sat on two Aires in France for five days with this heater permanently on. Self isolating and getting over a dose of Covid last October . Fortunately the EHU was free on both sites.

Given to price of electricity now I think metered supply will become the norm. A small 2000w fan heater currently costs about 65p an hour to run at domestic prices. I expect the commercial rates are more. To me its a fairer way, you pay for what you use.

I'm sure you are right.
We have some friends who are wardens on a site in Yorkshire and they have to warn people not to charge their electric bikes etc.

Fan heater is ok but once turned off it's cold again
At least an oil radiator stays warm for a considerable time.
Maybe use a fan until the radiator is warmed up.

That model has a good thermostat and it will maintain the temperature but we always turn it off at night.

That is getting stupid, to charge a completely flat 400 watt battery will take less than a ½kwh and very few people charge them from completely flat.

The site owner thinks its taking the Michael. We both know an awning heater is much more to worry about.

Ceramic fan heaters are tiny and safer than standard types.
