As always two steps forward and one back!

Removed, stripped and repainted bonnet lock mounting plates as they were rusting badly.

Rewired the reading lights over the cab seats and then replaced the light units themselves and all working again, at last.

Came to get the van out this morning and the front roller blind won’t go up on the motor so cranked it half way up manually to get it out onto the drive. Motor works to lower it but doesn’t work to lift it!

Any ideas anyone?

You seem to be having electric problems make me think it’s connected strange since you had it serviced?

The cab seat reading lights are an old problem which I have only just got around to fixing so should be unconnected.

I would guess the motor works by receiving a pos & neg for one way and a neg & pos for the other way, therefore I would suspect the switch or wiring.

The switch is in the bank to the right of the driver (R/H drive) and only one connection to the bottom of a Printed Circuit Board under that switch which rocks one way to raise and the other way to lower. I’ll have to see if I dare delve any further!

Had that bank of switches all apart today to clean and check. 2 printed circuit boards behind the switches so one must be faulty as cleaning the switches themselves made no difference!

So no blind for the holidays but sent off the 2 circuit boards to Apuljack Electronics to see if they could repair the fault.

Circuit boards back in a week and refitted this morning and all working again.

Well done Apuljacks!

Off to Dometic at Tewkesbury for a fridge service tomorrow and to get it working on mains electric again.

Set off for the 2.25 hour trip to Dometic at Tewkesbury only to find the M5 shut at Taunton and traffic chaos as a result. I must have driven around all the lanes in Somerset trying to get around the problem. Phoned Dometic to say I’d be late but no problem. Appointment at 10:30 but did not arrive until 11:45! Problem diagnosed in minutes. 240v element working but not in its channel just red hot and hanging loose down the back of the fridge! So much for the Dometic mobile engineer called in by N&B at Polch to replace the element. According to the guys at Tewkesbury it can’t be done from outside! The fridge has to be moved forward to get proper access to the back!

Asked them to sort it and do a service on it at the same time.

Now in Dobbies 8 minutes walk away having a nice lunch.

Out of interest the fridge freezers are best left in regular use to stop the ammonia forming crystals and blocking the cooling system.

A replacement cooling system is £900 to £1,000 inc VAT fitted.

Mine is a Tec tower with a small oven on the top which is too high for a short person to use safely.

Replacements come without ovens and can either be a 3 way replacement or a 12 volt compressor. Both discounted at Tewkesbury to £2k plus VAT fitted!

You would then fit a microwave where the oven was.

Very helpful and efficient service today from Dometic.

Fridge service £95.50 plus £47.50 being half an hour labour to refit the element properly plus VAT.

Gulp!
