I'm a newbie
Hot water exclamation mark on. Made tests and still fault light showing. Took to garage and they say the circuit board has blown. They say human error in my part. I was told when I purchased it that to make sure When using 240v to make sure fuse's are in the off position and turn in individually once turned on. Now they say you shouldn't use 240v at all and run everything off gas. So what's the point of having 240v if the circuit is so sensitive to any type of voltage spike. Surely you would think that there would be a safety circuit or inline fuse to protect the circuit. Plus what's the point of having a microwave that only runs on 240v. The van is under warranty but this guy I spoke to says Human error and nothing else. Anyone else had any run ins with motorhome company's regarding similar issues ?

Sounds to me like he’s talking complete nonsense!!!

Some of our more learned colleagues will be along to give you a more detailed answer,I’m sure.

They are talking rubbish.
Id suggest list the full info on here and get some decent advice. How good are you with a multimeter.

I shall do that. I haven't used one for a while but I do have one 👍

Agree with Landy Andy however we did previously experience some issues when we would turn the control knob around to quickly and the red "failure" light would come on.

We used to be able to solve the problem \ reset the boiler by completely removing power to the boiler (not just main 230v switch off but the full electrics to the van shutdown) and leaving for half an hour or so. Think this allowed any residual power (12v and 230v) in the boiler electrics to dissipate.

We also make sure we switch it on in a specific order, water heater and space heater on 230v side on first then turn the knob on the control panel to hot water only or heating and hot water.

Must admit I’ve confused my boiler by turning off boiler, then unplugging EHU, but the boiler was doing it cooling down process, and I disturbed that, so it had a strop.

Welcome!

The dealer appears to be attempting to deter you from exercising the benefits of the warranty, which will involve some cost to them.

I would take it back and politely ask that they rectify the issues. You should not be having to isolate each breaker and put them back on in turn every time you want mains hot water. It’s their job to sort it, not yours!

Also done similar but disconnecting ehu without turning off control panel, and 230v switches. It appeared to have taken the huff when I plugged it back in.

The instruction manual does state the control panel knob should be turned off first however the light may start flashing for a couple of minutes as the boiler goes through a shutdown \ cool down procedure. It will eventually go out.

If you turn off the power supply prior to this it can't do that and that's why I think it throws a hissy fit.

Is this a Whale unit? We’ve had ours (Elddis 115) lock out and we had to follow the reset procedure. Have you tried that? I can dig it out if you’re not familiar with the procedure.

Plus it’s a warranty issue. Anything you can break by using it is not fit for purpose.

Thanks for all your replies and all useful in their own way. At present they are ordering the part and hoping it will be in end of next week. I think the issue might be after it is fitted and then the discussion will start regarding who pays. I did refer to the whale handbook and looked online. Also spoke with the dealer. So reset the system via reset button and even disconnected leisure battery. Engineer looked at it yesterday and said PCB had blown and that's when this guy started going on about spikes in voltage etc. Apparently campsites are renowned for it until I said that I hadn't been to any campsites. I do know something about the sales of goods act 1974 and used to be an engineer some years ago so do have a little knowledge about how things work. Sadly I'm partially disabled now due to having a very bad bout of covid back in 2020 hence the name lol 😅.
I have attached a few pictures that I took and sent to the dealer. Fault code was multiple lights which in the handbook said could be more than one fault. So next week could be interesting. 🤔
