Just come back from Elddis dealers and damp has been confirmed for the 3rd time.Been told Elddis has come up with a solution. The lower trim is taken off on all 3 sides and metal brackets are placed against the lower wood frame ,sealed then trim replaced.
Has anyone had this "cure"

Is this the "solid" construction?. Sounds like changing it back to timber and metal brackets. Must be very annoying.

My Elddis 155 will have had all the walls ( to lower heights) and some floor renewed in 9 years. So SOLID means "nowt" in terms of preventing damp but many trips to main dealers on other side of Pennines from Sheffield. It's a good job I'm retired and have the time to take it approx 30 times for a variety of faults

So far so good with our van after over 5 years ownership from new. The only issue we've had has been the rubber seal on the aerial perishing and splitting, a possible source of water ingress in the future.
I've tried several places to get a replacement but apparently they've all had problems as Teleco not supplying it as a spare part.
So I contacted the dealership where we purchased the van. They had issues getting the part too, so they have offered to replace the whole aerial at cost (£90) plus 1 hours labour, a total of £165. I've searched about and can't even buy the aerial at that price. So a big shout out for Vehicles 4 Leisure in N. Wales

Hi, I have a 4 year old Elddis Encore 255, after a habitation check in June this year it highlighted a higher than normal damp rating on one part of the van and sealant degrading and shrinking on some of the other joints.
I decided to have it checked by Ant Hull at Sealfast near Northampton. I am really please i did! He found that most of the sealant that had clearly been badly applied at manufacture was degrading and in some cases loosening!
I couldn’t seek assistance from Elldis as the previous owner had not kept up habitation checks!
I am really pleased with Ant’s work and I am returning before winter to have the roof checked.
I believe in the old adage “roof when the sun is shining”

It does show having a current habitation check is important.after 8 years there is no quibble from Eddis .i just now assume the price of a new van takes into account the number of claims the warranty needs to pay out over 10 years UNLESS the checks are not carried out and so warranty is void and therefore saves Elddis money which on a £50k van is considerable

The whole concept of SOLID I thought meant STRONG, LIGHT,DRY with all sorts of unique construction from the aerospace, F1 and marine industries. Something didn’t go to plan.

It's a disgrace that the motorhomes are not built right in the first place and you are chasing up repairs all the time. We had problems with a new Swift Bessacarr which over the course of about 18 months spent more than a third of the time back at the factory. You would think it would be in there interest to provide good quality products. We no longer have the Swift and bought second hand knowing no warranty and what you get is what you get, warts an all. Much easier for us to live with and a far better experience. Hope Eldis do a good repair for you👍

Just spotted your post Cobnarowl ………
We had damp reported in our 2019 155 from Marquis, and Elddis recommended the same ‘fix’, eventually carried-out in February (damp found at previous Hab. check in the autumn). Sold the ‘van later that month as I didn’t want any future hassle with damp……. :(

edit: - here’s the thread….

Bought a 2019 Elddis encore 255 in Jan (1st Elddis but 7th van). Had a scheduled hab check in June by mobile service. He found the N/S rear corner upright panel's sealant was loosening or perishing. Top of O/S rear corner panel had smal fatigue-like cracks or splits at the top in the plastic of the panel (very thorough inspection). Also some poor or perished sealant in places. Worst part was very high damp reading at the bottom of the side panel behind driver's door, plus some other highish readings. He said overall it wasn't tooooo bad - for an Elddis, and they are usually the problem ones. I decided it would be a protracted affair going via warranty, and would it be sure to fix it for the long term? So went back to the dealer and after some negotiation I'm back to an Auto-Trail, although it helped the discussion that the Peugeot service also in June had found a chewed up air filter with 4 dead mice in there when the delivery PDI had ticked that off as OK , and same PDI which had also ticked off their damp check as OK.

I wonder what the odds of it being fixed before being sold are! Did it go straight up for sale?

More or less straight on sale (I left the new hab check report in the documents pack and there's a 2023 sticker in the van to go with it) hope next buyer would be savvy enough to ask about the report first

Thank you
The irony is that the damp repairs are only guaranteed for 12 months
That's one reason I didn't want to get into these antics. And with the wet couple of months we just had how much more damp could be absorbed while awaiting repairs ?
