We have booked a campsite close to Edinburgh for the new year celebrations and are a bit worried as to how to get back to site late as it seems public transport won’t be running . Does anyone have experience of this journey and are taxis available generally to get us repatriated with our van at Drummohr Holiday Park . ?

Taxis 10 a penny, depending on time you may need to queue though.

Do you have tickets ?

They used to run buses but that seems to have gone by the board I think. I reckon Edinburgh Taxi's are some of the most expensive in the UK so be prepared!

Check the Wallyford P&R as I’d have thought that would have busses going to it, also Wallyford has a railway station so check train times

My daughter has an East Lothian taxi app on her phone so easy to pre book and track unless you don't want to stick to a set time. Think trains usually stop running before midnight but not sure but P & R Wallyford an easy walk to campsite.

I thought you only need tickets to enter the princes gardens, where the music is on? Might have changed as it's a few years since we've been.

Only live 7 miles most of my life but have never been to Edinburgh on hogmanay even as a young one.

Not been for several years but last time we went the ceilidh, the gardens and part of Princess st was all ticketed. Didn't really find it value for money. All the bars out with this area were accessible.

Uber runs in Edinburgh. We've used them a fair bit.

Take a torch as I’m sure the last part to the site has no lights, I would make sure you’re on a bus well before the last one.

See you're sorted the East Lothian Taxi firm was AC taxis maybe others on App.

No help for now I know... but for future reference Mortonhall site is only 4miles from city and has a night bus N11 from outside gate to princes street..
However do not know if it runs on Hogmanay..
However 4miles in a taxi will be cheaper and easier to get than a 10 mile trip to your choosen site.
From experience a taxi driver would rather do 3 short pickups than driving you 10 miles with relatively no chance return fare.👍👍
