We hope to fit a Fogstar 230Ah lithium battery in the next few months.
We have a b2b and solar controller both of which have a lithium setting.
The EBL 227 has a Lithium/Gel setting but looking at the spec sheet it appears to charge at 14.4V for 16 hours before dropping down to 13.7v.
Will this be ok for occasional mains charging?
Is it likely to damage the battery?
 
If you do use I would turn it off once the battery is charged.
14.4v is a bit high and 16 hour absorbtion is not good for lithium also 13.7v float is too high should be 13.5v.
 
⬆️ that, plus your Fogstar should stop accepting charge at an upper voltage limit and not accept charge til it drops to the lower voltage release. you can adjust these in an app (if it’s a drift or pro and need Fogstar agreement to confidently protect warranty).

I would use it for occasional charging but it won’t caress your nice new lithium as it should. Having said that, they can take more abuse than other chemistries. Don’t empty it!. If you move around much your b2b and solar may be sufficient. Can you isolate the charger so that you can run your 240v appliances without charging.

I don’t know to be honest.
Perhaps there is a fuse I can remove or can I just pull the mains lead out of the socket on the Ebl?
(I suppose I should just do it right and fit a lithium charger)

Doesn't appear to be a fuse to disable the charger on the EBL 227.
That solar controller should be mounted vertically unless it has a built in fan.

Just found this in the EBL instructions:-
Lithium batteries have a separate battery management system. The final charge voltage, applied longer in position ”Lith./Gel”, enables the BMS for the lithium battery to charge it accordingly
That is really bad advice, BMS does not control charging, it will just stop the charging if the voltage is too high. The BMS is a last resort to protect the battery.

I have the same EBL, there's a 20 amp fuse with the "Lade-modul" description that protects the charger, but I guess you loose the starter battery charge ability also (haven't tested that yet).
No, it only stops the leisure battery charge.
 
I looked on the Lippert website for the manual for the EBL 227, and only the German version showed up. Here is the English version I got from the Schaudt site before the Lippert merger.

So the Fogstar 230Ah under seat Lithium battery is now fitted.
Solar controller and B2B working fine (but I will need more solar and perhaps a better B2B sometime in the future).
The original mains operated charger (EBL 227) has not yet been changed.
I don't envisage using the mains charger very often but when I do is it ok to monitor the charging via the Fogstar app,
and just disable charging via the app when the battery is fully charged?
This would avoid the need to start removing fuses etc.

You could do that. Although, I am in the same situation as you (same van, same EBL) and I'll remove the fuse I told you above, so I can have the 220VAC sockets, the trickle charging to the starter battery, and forget about charging the LiFePo4 through the mains. I personally prefer to remove a fuse than turn OFF the charging from the app, but that's just me 😬

NDS instructions do not say to fit vertically, so will depend on where the vents are.
And at what power it is run :madder::nod:
