Needing to visit an array of research locations all around London, I'd like to find a site, or a CS with hookup, VERY close to regular public transport for stays of a week at a time.
Also, what is the easiest travel card for all modes of public transport. I have a senior railcard but nought else?

Hopefully this will give you and idea of where the CS (green) and CL’s (red) around London. If you need details names of any in the location you’re planning to be happy to let you know the names. The map is maps.me with POI’s I’ve generated from the clubs garmin satnav POI’s.

That's great thanks. I do have the clubs' maps and apps.
I am hoping from the experience of others to discover which sites have the easiest to use connections via public transport. I will be using it daily for a period.
This access will rate above almost everything else except electric.

It’s expensive compared to CL’s/CS’s but Abbey Wood C&MC site is great for the underground (10 min walk) in to London, as is Crystal Palace.

I agree that Abbey Wood site is easy to get to and very convenient for the new Elizabath Line with trains every 5 minutes in both directions.
You can also leave the train after one stop at Woolwich and take the Uber Boats to town.
For payments you can register your credit or debit cards with TfL and just swipe them at start and end of journey. They automatically cap your payments at daily maximum.

I stayed at and liked Abbey Wood years ago but then there were no congestion or emissions charges.

I think it depends on your motorhome whether you pay any charges...we paid none entering along the A2 from the M25
2008 turbo diesel. I entered it's number plate and informed I would have to pay.
But Abbey Wood is always near capacity so how do they all get there? Pay?

We have a 2007 Fiat Ducato and don’t have to pay, it’s currently in the LEZ zone, if/when it moves to ULEZ then that’s a different matter!

If you're over 3500kg you'll have to pay the £60 LEZ charge to get to Abbey Wood

Not true. We are 4.85 tons and fully LEZ ULEZ compliant.
Recently been to Abbey wood through the Blackwall tunnel and no charges.

How do you get around the LEZ rules, do you manage to avoid the ANPR or is it a modern van with some Euro class exemption?

If your not compliant and travel through Blackwell tunnel you would need to pay but abbey wood can be reached via dartford crossing without going into ulez

So, I'm going to Abbey Wood in November, coming from the North, staying a night at Cambridge, so does everyone recommend, M25, Dartford Tunnel, A2, then Brampton Road?

I just put my reg number into the government ULEZ website and hey presto I’m compliant. No getting around the rules.

Do you need to pay anything for the LEZ? My Euro IV 2011 3.0l 4.25t has to pay £100 LEZ & ULEZ

Do NOT go straight down Knee Hill at the very top of Brampton Road across the traffic lights (gets very narrow indeed for 2 lanes of traffic), Either follow the brown campsite signs by turning left (long convoluted way in over many speed bumps) or much better....turn right at the traffic lights..... about 300m then turn left down New Road. (Steep hill but double decker bus route so you will be fine). All way to bottom then left.... under overpass bridge follow road round to the left and up a short hill to a large roundabout. Take 2nd exit heading up Knee Hill and Federation Road (camp site address) is 2nd right.

Took some looking but I've found New Road and followed your route, so I'll use your local knowledge, thank you

Thanks everyone. I have just put my rego into the checker again and it states I have to pay 100 per day for the LEZ.
Don't think Abbey Wood is within the congestion zone, which can be avoided anyway by driving after 1800.
