Home from a quick trip along the Suffolk coast. Spring is definitely on the way, one of the highlights was finding a pair of Adders enjoying the sunshine.

I hope you had a long long lens. You do know they have a nasty bite?
A workmate was into nature type things .....until an adder took a bite.
He was a bit more cautious after that.

Yes I used a long lens to avoid disturbing them. Adders are venomous, but aren't aggressive and will try to avoid you if possible.

To be pedantic, snakes are not poisonous - they are venomous.
Poison is ingested, venom is injected ....
Our Border terrier survived an adder bite .....

When I was working in many years was only asked for snake antivenom twice. Both times it was for dogs that had been bitten by adders. People don't usually try to grab snakes, but dogs do. I had to recall Meg in Spain once, who started to chase a 6ft Monpellier snake we'd disturbed in the shrubbery. They are venomous but only apparently in the back teeth.

They often come out in February if it’s a nice warm day I’ve seen loads during February up here.

There are between 80 and 100 people bitten by Adders in the UK each year. Almost all cases are caused by men who are old enough to know better, picking the snakes up!

Used to see them all the time on Sussex railway tracks basking on the stone ballast, they used to live in troughing routes that houses 3rd rail electrification cable .
Lovely colours.
Never a problem they just move away slowly out of your way .
