Continuing on from P0403 and P0638 fault codes in earlier post under EGR blank plate.............

Just removed, stripped down and cleaned every fuse and relay in the fuse box that sits in the engine bay on the nearside. (see attached photos)

Noticed that Fuse F17 E.i. system (primary services) 10 Amp had blown. Any electricians out there that can confirm exactly what this fuse is for and the effect of failing?

I believe it may have something to do with 'electronic ignition'. Is this my problem?

Cheers adgy

I assume you don't have an owners handbook.
All fuse locations are usually listed in there.
Without make, model and year #17 is of no use.

Sorry
Fiat Ducato 2.3 Multi-jet - reg 2010

Fuse box is still off the van. I will let you know when it goes back on.

Could just be a chafed wire that's caused it to blow ? I had something similar on my Volvo, the wire to the variable vane turbo solenoid had rubbed through, blowing one of those mini fuses. OBD reader was pointing at maf sensor which I changed, but the fault code stayed the same. Car wouldn't turn over and "engine" light was lit on the dash. New fuse sorted everything once the wire was repaired.

Fuse box back in now and fuse seems to be Ok................... Engine starts but clouds of black smoke and MIL and limp mode still active.
I have now checked the back pin voltages of the Mass Air Flow sensor and they seem to be all over the place so I have ordered new MAF sensor and it should be here tomorrow.

I have also removed the blanking plate for the time being and will be putting everything back as it was until I find the true fault. As a precaution I have also replaced the EGR solonoid and vacuum piping. Also cleaned the MAP sensor on the inlet manifold. Im starting to really enjoy this project and its taking me back to my Austin 1100, Hillman Hunter, Ford Fiesta etc etc... days. Only wish my back was 30 years younger!

OK brief update
Now replaced Mass Airflow Flow unit and Throttle body.............................. Still no change, engine running rough, plenty of black smoke and still in limp mode!
The two fault codes will not clear......................
The thing has beat me and I have had to bite the bullet and seek professional advice.
Initial response from the garage was 'This is a can of worms' and we dont really want to touch it, you should take it back to the garage who rebuilt the engine!
This is NOT an option and I explained the problems I have already had with this garage as per my post in the thread
EGR valve blanking/cheating - September 25 2017.
As I am in no great rush to use my van I have agreed to let this garage start at the beginning, possibly remove the engine and start from scratch as they feel it may be a fault with the wiring caused by the previous garage.

Ill let you know.

Put a post on out and about live, there is a bloke Euroserve who runs a Fiat comertial hire business and he’s red hot on Fiat ducato faults.

Black smoke is indicative of poor / incomplete combustion of the fuel.
