Being the proud new owner of a new e-bike, I’m wondering if the bike rack on the back of Marge will take the extra weight? I can’t find the manufacturer’s weight specs (or even find the manufacturer’s badge on the rack), so it’s all bit of guesswork.

But I’m wondering if anyone else has had this dilemma? The bike weighs 24kg, with the battery out around 23kg.

We have the thule ebike carrier for 2 bikes and a ramp fits to the towbar, all technical information on their website

Yes I checked this out , I also checked with Tony at easy lifters he is going to make a fitting so the bike rack can fit on the hydratrail when we take the Duke with us.

Just check you are happy with lifting the ebike on and off the bike rack. It appears easy at first, but not trying to comment on your fitness, thought I was reasonably fit and soon found that it was hard work. Now gone for a tow bar bike rack.

I carry 2 ebikes on my Fiamma rack, it’s rated at 60kg and the 2 bikes weigh 47 combined without batteries. I never put the batteries in until we’re going to use the bikes. They’re not light lifting them up but we manage comfortably. We do however need a stepladder to get the cover on properly so have just had to buy a 3 step folding aluminium ladder to take with us.

It depends on what rack you have and what MH/camper its on, eg a Fiamma rack on the back of a camper will only take 35kg max, but on the back of a MH some can go up to 60kg I believe.

60kg for our fiamma.
I use a pole instead of a step ladder to get the cover over the top of them.
I also use the pole to extend the squeegee so I can clean my front windows of condensation without stretching (multi tasking eh)

The pole doesn't mind as he realises I could easily use a romanian if he did...

I'll get me coat...

I think there are three things to consider:
1. Is the bike rack strong enough
2. Is the construction of the rear of the van strong enough.
3. Check the axle weight.

With reference to (2) I know someone who seriously damaged the rear of their van because, although the actual bike rack was OK,the rear of the van was not strong enough to take the weight.. It would probably have been OK as a straight weight but going over bumpy roads and potholes was too much for it.
