After waiting several weeks for C 1 renewal licence, contacting them by phone and being cut off when ‘ transferring you to medical department’
I have had several forms today asking me to re send information that was sent with original application many weeks ago PLUS a form asking me to declare which modifications I need to be able to drive- although I had not, as this form stated I had - told them I needed any .
words can’t express my fury .. I just hope I will ever get my licence from them, very angry at the tone of letters stating they MAY need to write to my Dr ( not relevant ) or my Oncologist ( both sets of details sent in full initially ) IMO these are hectoring bordering on the threatening 😳and I had thoroughly read the ‘ assessing fitness to drive ‘ publication before applying and my diagnosis was not/ is not relevant to the application. Also they seem to think I want to drive a lorry

However I now have VERY raised blood pressure .
Thanks for listening 😄😄

They are very frustrating. A bit different circumstances but an underling working for my MP sorted it within a week when I complained to her via email. It seems to be the medical bit that causes the blockage . . . Hope you can get it sorted soon.

In our experience, if there is any current or past medical condition, they will write to your GP. Naturally GP will not put the reply as the top of their list. If you have only been waiting weeks, you are just at the start. Sorry.

They could have written to GP about 6 weeks ago when I sent them all the details initially GRRRRRRRR - and GP has not seen me so that will be another derangement - but thank you -
I am taking youngest grandson to Naussica in April - delayed trip [now all booked and paid for !] from last year when I was post op ... but no licence .. no driving in France .

Thats difficult. For us, we are 2 years in age apart so in the year John was waiting, I drove and in the year I was waiting, he drove. Gave up both C1s after that - couldn’t go through it again.

How heavy is your Hymer? Do you need the C1 for it.

Kirsten your tail is virtually the same as mine in the second quarter of last year. I wrote them a clear, concise letter which I sent back with the documents completed as they wanted. I started my letter saying I want to put everything into context and made it clear that I had no need of any adaptations or mods to the vehicle. Like you I was furious with their incompetence and stupidity but I wanted my licence so I just kept it polite and simple. I got my plastic about an week later. Take a breath and good luck.

Thank you Roger and everyone for the hugs and thumbs… I have recovered my temper xx❤️

I don't want to be the nearer of bad news but presently new applications without medical issued are taking an average of 3 months
Had a colleague in a similar position and he pit pressure on the gp to respond. It went off last week to dvla. Now the wait

I sent my renewal off from Poland last month,so do not know when it arrived(usually takes about 10 days) and new licence showed on computer within days. It has been forwarded to me by a friend but not yet arrived.

Renewals are always quicker than new applications if there are no issues

checking on the DVLA website it now says I have no licence as it has expired - I thought I could continue with current licence until they had renewed it ! Have phoned several times had no sense from them - does this mean I CANT drive in uk ? What happens now ? I know I cant drive abroad without actual physical licence , sat at home waiting for a call back :cry::cry::cry:

I can’t point you to the actual source but similar thing happened to me . I was informed I could continue to drive under section 88 as my renewal was applied for.

Here you go

Joe's had the same - his licence is saying expired but he has received a letter from DVLA saying they are contacting the GP and that as long as there are no reasons for not being allowed to drive he can continue to drive in the UK under Section 88. He has put the letter in his wallet in case he is stopped for any reason.

The GP has received the letter from DVLA but goodness knows when it will be replied to. We are also supposed to be going to France in April but unless the licence arrives then we won't be as I can't drive the motorhome.

Thank you Denise and Joe and Phil D.Appreciate
Have had a look at the section 88, and all ok [according to me - as I am ok on the criteria] BUT I haven no letter from DVLA stating they are contacting my Dr [re my C1] my Dr has not had anything from them so I assume the DVLA have not got my application on the 'to do' pile yet -
France in end of easter will be ok as Sarah can drive in France I will drive to Folkestone and back in uk etc - but what can I do if I have an accident or am stopped while driving in UK in the eternity the DVLA seem to be taking - no point in asking anyone at DVLA as anything to do with medical is a black hole . But thank you I will just h ave to stop worrying and keep trying to hasten the process by writing to MP etc if not sorted before we go in Moho to France September !

Just found out we won’t be going to France now as doctor wants to speak to me over the phone and as it a 30 minute call earliest appointment is 17th April which is 2 days after we are supposed to be leaving?

[Scottish roots writhing ] paid D4D in first place and was totally sure the chemo I am on [ which ends in 2 weeks now ] was not reportable either . Did say that to Dr at D4Dso not happy x 3 now .
At least when I get Bill from Hospital [and or GP?] I will know DVLA have actually contacted them ... but as I said in letter to them Oncologist off sick ,has been since xmas no replacement available. Wish I had just lied said I was on no meds ... [typo of"died" instead of lied - corrected it but maybe I will before they sort this out :LOL::LOL::LOL: ]
Onwards . Packing van for brief break in Scarborough booked ages ago as not been away for months. Feel very supported by Moho Funsters . United in despair ar DVLA xxx

i believe DVLA pay for any additional reports the request. i.e Gp's £40 in the above case.

I had to get my local mp involved as it took them almost a year to respond, didn’t hold out much hope of resolution but licence arrived less than a week later

Can't get an appointment with him until 17 April because apparently it's going to need 30 minutes of his time - and all for the princely sum of £40! That is only a telephone appointment too - still not doing face to face appointments unless it's something that can't be dealt with on the phone!

Miracle , had letter from DVLA proving licence is being reviewed , but sadly also on phone to hospital my lovely nurse said they were puzzled as to request from DVLA to oncology re my fitness to drive lorrys and buses…now worried they won’t renew as this is not C 1 …

The DVLA paid for my hospital stress test.

Once you reach 70 you have to meet the Category 2 medical standard to retain C1. This is the medical standard applied to lorry and coach drivers.

Took them 2 years to do mine after a simple faint. I had to get my MP and the ombudsman involved and then it was sorted within a couple of days.
