Just a quick.
Our v5 states we are 1830kg unladen on our VWt5 2005 camper , converted in 2016.
Weighed it last week and came in higher, but with fuel, bit of water and gas but full poptop conversion , fridge, swivel twin seats etc etc to make it a campervan.
V5 has it registered as Motor Caravan as type, but do I need to inform them of the new weight for unladen Gvw, as it has obviously gone up due to the conversion from what was basically just a van.
Confused!
Thanks in advance

The Revenue weight or the Maximum permissible mass are the weights that limit what you carry not the unladen weight.

Eh?
Sorry but confused.
GVW is 3000kg
Revenue weight is 1831kg unladen as stated on v5 as such.
Mam is 4800
Axle 1 is 1500kg max
Axle 2 is1625kg max
Van weighed on weighbridge at 2180kg.
By your statement are you saying that the maximum permissable weight I can carry is 3000kg or 1831kg?
Thanks.

No, neither does mine but these are on the vin plate in the engine bay along with engine number and chassis number (vin).

If GVW as stated on v5 is 3000 and weighbridge says 2180 then you can carry a load of 820 kg.
But chassis plate should agree with v5 may be another plate fitted by converter or converter changed weights with DVLA and didn't fit updated plate ????

No.unladen weight doesn't include many things you would think it does.

Aah 4800 is not MAM that is 3000kgs.
4800kgs is MTW(maximum train weight) which means 4800-3000kgs= trailer towing weight of 1800kgs

Thanks gus-lopez and oldiesontour.
Starting to make a lot of sense now.
Not using consistent terminology has been my downfall methinks.
Either way, we have a fairly good payload for what we want to do, and as I used to tug years ago, a small caravan or trailer tent for others to use but travel in their own car might be an option also.
I cannot find any other converters plates anywhere but am happy at where we are so far.
Thanks to all who replied with advice, comments and guidance.
Much obliged.

Understood, but which plate?
We are at 1831kg revenue,
Weighed at 2180kg with full fuel, conversion, pop-top, fridge etc, water and gas, and with 2 x75kg adults and 2 x 21kg grandkids we weigh in at 2372kg.
So with a 3000kg max load we still have 628kg to play with for food, bedding, some clothes and plates etc and we are downsizing and getting rid of a lot of unnecessary stuff that's nice to have but not essential.
I am sure we will be perfectly within the law.
Oh. And we have uprated van tyres.

Will they? If the figures on the DVLA system are different I suspect they will use the easy to obtain official figures rather than scratch around in dirty corners looking for a missing plate.

Just as with MOT it is the plated details that should be used

The plate as shown is the original VW one, there should be another one by the converter which would supercede the original, if there is not then you must not exceed 3,000 kgs or 4,800 if towing and not exceed the individual axle weights.

Unlikely to be another plate with a VW, as they start off at 2600, 2800, 3000 or 3200 kg then no real need for replating.

No changes to the body unlike a coachbuilt, unless it is one of the rarer of the species such as the old Compass or the new Weinsberg.
