DVLA Road Tax Increase

I don't need it for another 11 years! I just wondered why people make a big deal over not being able to drive over 3.5 ton after 70. Aslong as you are reasonably healthy it sounds to me as though that's the way to go then.

Medicals at GPs are over £100 at most surgeries! That's why a lot of people use Drs for Drivers (D4D) who charge about £55.

Mines booked with d4drivers next week £55 they have local clinics all over the country really helpful couldn’t even get appointment with a doctor at our surgery🙄

I am now 80 so have passed 4 UK D4 medicals, conducted by a Polish doctor( any EU qualified doctor could, and I believe still can, do it).

I have also passed my first Polish equivalent medical, which being the first included a psychological test, but only for the first[ the examiner came and looked at my answers at half-way and took the paper away :giggle: ]. All quite forward and my Polish licence is valid until I am 84.

If you want C1 after 70 just get on with it - easier than changing MHs, or downplating to a weight you might struggle to comply with.

Local councils set the road tax here. Mine is one of the highest in Spain at 161, 58€ for the van. Been the same price for the last 3 years I've taxed it. (y)
Does the road tax in Spain pay directly for road maintenance, or is it just general taxation to pay for government services as it is in the UK?

Only once every 3 years.
Lenny You've just answered my next question before I embarrassed myself and asked. Thanks, so it's every 3 years, not every year as my neighbour reckons.

Thanks

I do I have a toilet and can sit in comfort 😉😉😉
And I have a caravan with a toilet, underfloor heating and it cost me no extra insurance, tax and fuel.

As said the local council set it & get to keep it.They also repair the roads except dual carriageways & motorways. To me it is a ridiculous situation with wildly differing rates & people , & even the government themselves, attempting to register vehicles in places that have the cheapest tax rates. In Estepòna , Andalucia I would have got 4 years vehicle tax for the 1 year I pay here & the andalucians wonder why the cataluñans hate them for taking so much money from central government that the cataluñans pay in? far better to standardise a vehicle tax rate across the whole of spain. Then again mot costs , which you can do in any region also vary by up to 100% difference.🤷‍♂️

I have heard that some thrifty motorhomers put their van on sorn when out of the UK but sure it was not on MHF 😂😂😂

People who do this need to check their insurance details. I would expect the small print to invalidate any claims on a vehicle that is not on-the-road registered.

The van would be road registered but not being on British roads should not have to pay taxation if not used or parked on UK roads?

Some of them are just for a year if they (DVLA department) decide that’s what you are getting.
So your neighbour could be correct. My husband had this.
I have always passed all DVLA’s tests but they still take a year to process the application through the medical department. This means that for one year in, 3 I am without a licence, that is my current situation.

Ever year is for HGV.
Only every 3 years to keep a C1 unless you have medical problems then they might put a restriction on.

When I take the MoHo out for a trip I want to know that the drivers around me are safe to be on the road. How can I know this? I pay the authorities (through taxes and fees) to ensure that there are checks in place to prevent extreme drivers from putting me and my family at risk. The DVLA and motor insurance companies together are there to help deliver safety on the road. I have no problem paying for this.....and yes, like everyone else, I don't want to be paying too much. It's easy to knock the DVLA or insurance companies for the excessive cost of motoring, but it all comes down to us as consumers in the end, the people we vote for, and the behaviour we tolerate. DVLA is just there to enforce the rules that we have asked our politicians to impose. And, as always, the guys there do not have the money that they need to do the job properly. It's no surprise to me that people are waiting for documents and licences. It's a fact of life that there is not enough money in the coffers to pay for everything we want and think we need.
