With all the reported problems with the DVLA !How long does it take to remove a cherished number and put on retention.I want to sell my motorhome but want to remove my number off it before it hopefully sells!I put the number on when I bought the vehicle 13 years ago and hoping that it can go back to its original regs as I still have the plates😁

Normally done istantantly online, don't wait for the paperwork just order a set of plates for the new number on eBay.

Edit:
Just saw you have the plates.

It's immediately as soon as you pay and press the button. Did mine 3 weeks ago new log book arrived in 3 days. Quite simple to do.

As soon as you complete the online application and pay the fee.

As others have said. Do it online and it’s instant.
Very rare that the original registration number is not restored.
Did it recently for an SLK I am selling and the V5 took 3 days to arrive.

You get the retention document in a few days

Also, when going through the online process, you get the reference number for your cherished number so you could assign it to another vehicle immediately,
Provided you have the V5 in your name.
