Lovely countryside. We used CAMC sites (2) and the harbour overnite facility at Girvan, it was great and we thought we were supporting the LA and local business's. RinGo was a pain but ok in the end. The exellent idea of free all day but you must pay to overnite was simple and effective. We did see a council van come round after charge period had started but they didnt seem to check anything just sat there eating sandwiches, however perhaps they had taken down all the reg no's , who knows?
Also stopped daytime at Ayr. The parking is quite a walk from the centre and there was no chance to spend money unless you wanted that long seafront walk. Noted the emptying and wrinse facuilites at both but didnt need to use them as we were between CAMC bookings.
All in all we found it a good idea limited number to the marked bays and brought some income
Also stayed at Loch Doone Camping, a community run site , suspect mostly long termers but a lot of lovely people and real characters. Midges average to poor

How was the mobile phone signal? Recently up at Kinlochewe and I was made to beg for my wife's hotspot 😁. O2. Vodafone and Three we zero signal. Only EE worked

We use ASDA mobile when they used EE it was often very poor but they have now changed to Vodafone and it was surprisingly good over D&G. Also good tv signals as wel

Sorry if this sounds cheeky but you’ve titled your post D&G then all you mention is Ayrshire, might be worth adding a bit about D&G just to save confusion for those who don’t know.

Well its all SW scotland ayrshire and the southern bit , we re mostly west of Dumfries.
Think some of it was Wigtownshire but unsure, anyway a good holiday

Quite surprised that the Three signal is poor there, but thanks for the info.

Glad you had a nice time mate, you've went back home at the wrong time, the weather is beautiful here now.
Yes The Blackburn Carpark Aire is a bit too far from the town centre, but the town centre like most places is a shadow of itself since the anti parking twits on the council had their way, they really should look to small towns like Castle Douglas to see how its done.
Loch Doon is stunning if you get the weather on side, bit too peaceful for some folk, but can be so majestic.

Hurry back.

Glad you enjoyed our region, I keep telling folk who are pushed for time to turn left at Gretna instead of driving 4 hours to the highlands. We have some stunning scenery, quite roads, vast amount of wildlife and some stunning beaches without the cost of the popular tourist areas.

That's why we have all four major UK sims in our two mobiles and mobiles that support dual sims and micro sd cards independently!
Trying to maximise the potential of a mobile signal.
Currently in D&G with minimal EE and Vodafone with slightly better 3 and O2.
3 data sim's working fairly well on 4g.
