Just had a new Michelin Cross Climate Camping tyre fitted to my steel spare (decided it was too stressful to run without a proper spare). Anyhow, looking at the tread, I presume their is a reason why the chevron pattern appears directional, but surely this will be reversed depending on what side of the vehicle it's mounted? I'm working on the assumption that Michelin know a tad more than myself when it comes to manufacturing tyres....so nothing to worry about?

Lots of tyres these day are directional so have to be fitted to suit the side of the vehicle they are going to be used on.

With a spare it is acceptable run them on the wrong side until you get the tyre with a problem sorted. Obviously the grip level won't be quite the same.

If tyres are directional they will have an arrow on outer depicting what way they rotate.

Running in the wrong direction will cause a change in all the parameters eg , economy , noise grip stability, tread life but not to any great amount , and especially if it is just used as Lenny HB suggests . Not suitable if trying for best lap time :)

I am thinking of fitting some Agilis cross-climates, but I was thinking of just keep the supplied, existing tyre on the spare.
If worst comes to worst, and the front tyre goes and I need the extra grip, I can always put the spare on the back, and put the one remaining good tyre on the front - even though that would need 2 changes.
