I used it, but found the results too USA focussed...
even with correct regional setting... so reverted to Google in frustration.

I often use duckduckgo rather than google.

It is built into firefox as an option for searches but you need to define your search terms carefully with correct spelling.

Tried it many years ago - defaulted to searching in the USA.

Yes I saw this post and started to use it but as others have said even though you set it for UK it still isnt good, try Bing instead

Duck sells themselves on privacy but I can't trust the founder. He made his money by selling user data...the Names Database, which he made milliions from selling. I'd go with something open source yacy.net jivesearch.com or searx.me.

I don't trust Bing any more than I trust google.

Trying to do any serious research via internet searches is getting more and more frustrating due to the algorythms that skew or hide the results. Even trying to find sources you visited in the past and news stories remembered from years ago is becoming near impossible.

Dodgy people are taking full advantage of the "right to be forgotten".

I quite like the Qwant search engine (qwant.com). It's European, French to be specific -- but don't worry you don't have to use French language :)

It doesn't track and appears to be neutral in its results i.e. no favoured rankings.

Having done some tests, it doesn't seem to update as often as Google i.e. crawling is not so efficient, but not bad.

There are many reasons to dislike Google, but the main thing for me is that market dominance and virtual monopoly is never healthy.

I use Firefox with Quant for searching. Would not use Google because of tracking and and targeting for adverts. Google is too big and too intrusive.
