Morning Funsters. My 2016/17 Ducato starts first time from cold, but 6/8 even 12 attempts when warm after a run. Doesn’t seem to matter i
What I do to throttle.

Any suggestions please?
Regards,

Rob

Start by tightening all battery terminals and starter motor contacts and check your earth straps. Heat on an already loose connection can make it have even less contact?
OP said it won't start when warm .....never said won't crank over.
Obviously a fuel problem

I'm only suggesting something that is easy to try first . I had a contact that expanded when hot on an old starter - replaced cable and solved issue.

We had the same issue - no problems starting from cold, but would usually take 2-3 tries to restart when warm.

Ours is a 2.3L Ducato, 2013.

Issue turned out to be a bad connection on the engine earth strap. Unlike other reports of earth strap issues online, it didn’t look particularly rotten, but since removing it, cleaning both ends with a wire brush and refitting, we’ve not had the warm starting issue again.

I’m not exactly sure how it was related - heat does increase the resistance in an electrical connection/conductor, which, along with some other minor electrical gremlins is what caused me to look at the earth strap, but on reflection the engine it was not struggling to start in the way you would expect if the starter motor was not able to draw enough power (e.g due to a weak battery or poor connection) - if anything the symptoms we had were more like the immobiliser or a fuelling issue. However, since sorting out the ground strap, both the warm starting issue and other electrical issues have fully resolved.

Therefore, as a preventative measure I have since fitted a second earth strap between two other points on the engine block and chassis.
