My PVC (2021 reg, but base vehicle built in 2019) has, somewhat irritatingly, had a number of spots on the roof where the silver topcoat has flaked off.

I've just about (inexpertly) managed to touch them all up with a little bottle of touch up paint I have, but it seems likely that the flaking may continue - between the time I became aware of the problem and when I made work of it a number of new spots appeared.

Is this a common problem?

As the metal underneath is galvanised I expect it probably won't cause rust - is this a fair assumption?

I don't much feel like having the whole roof repainted, and I'm sure it won't be a cheap job if I had it done, but what have others done?

Thanks

Unfortunately not that unusual with the Sevel made Fiat vans that the top paint coat loses adhesion. Slightly happening on my 2019 around the wing panel joints. It's been a risk for years and years. Not a real problem for the commercial base vehicles that are only expected to have a few years life before thrashed to death, but for the minority of us using the vans as a motorhome ....

Yes my 2013 Possl 2win is the same flaking paint, started at the roof and bonnet “repaired” by myself with touch up paint!
“They all do that sir” 😐
