No, never occurred to me , sorry. Used a paint scraper to prise apart the seam on the top arm & the back facing half just pulled apart, the forward half is held on by a screw at vehicle end.Don't suppose you took any photos? Always useful when you successfully attempt a job that is likely to have been an issue for others. Now I have a vague idea about how to tackle the same problem on my MoHo!
Cheers!

Some of the later mirrors did have a screw. My 2007 was doing the same and it was a spring clip arrangement that cannot be tightened.Well, glad I didn't order a new mirror! Just pried off the top arm covers with a palet knife, tightened the big screw at top which was loose & it has tightened up nicely, took about 5 minutes & cost nothing
I can concur, just prise rear top arm cover off (scary) and pop a screw holding front cover to arm and the adjusting screw is there, did this after reading simbadog's comment after already removing complete mirror as per short arm mirrorsWell, glad I didn't order a new mirror!
